Riding on Ike's waves?

IMHO, retired **** General Wesley Clark seems to be the best chance the democrats have of ousting the current regime. The Washington Post asks if Howard Dean will run as his VP? Apparently, even Michael Moore thinks so, as well.

Although some folks are concerned that Clark may have been connected with the Waco debacleduring which, Clark was in ( Read more... )

pay no attention to the man behind the curtain... aethyrflux September 19 2003, 17:16:18 UTC
i definitely hear your concerns about his lack of political experience, but i'm at the point where i feel that anything will be better than our current regime. and so far, i get the impression that Clark is the best bet to be able to defeat the incumbent opposition. and these days, presidents are really just puppet figureheads -- it's their handlers that i'm more concerned about (q.v. above comments).

"anything will be better than our current regime"

Yep. You're right. And the "current regime" covers both the Republicans and the Democrats.

Pick someone else. Vote Green. Write in Mister Rogers. SOMETHING ELSE.

If people would just vote their consciences instead of for the "lesser evil, because otherwise we'll have X, and he'll be horrible", we'd see some real change.

Of course, I hold out no hope that that will happen. America sucks.

don't settle for the lesser evil **the stars are right** vote for the elder party! aethyrflux September 19 2003, 17:44:49 UTC
I will neither succumb to apathy, nor will I surrender my reason to idealism. Third party candidates will have to work at the local and state levels before they will be a viable option for nat'l offices.

I do not have any illusions that donkeys are better than elephants -- it's actually just that I want relief from this particular group of greedy industrialists that has risen to power in the gop. Y'know... I think we should spread the wealth a little, and even conservative economic journals are starting to agree. It's kinda like checks and balances for the military-industrial complex, or maybe a game of musical chairs played to the tune of oil reserves?

Oh, OK. Go ahead and vote for the OTHER "group of greedy industrialists" then. Surely they'll be better.

Gah. All politicians suck. I think we should have a government like we do with jury duty: you're randomly selected, and unless you have a DAMN GOOD reason, you have to serve a couple of years as a legislator, executive, or judge. Pay them decently, and provide a home for them in D.C. during their term. At the end, give them a bonus, and send them home. Maybe let the very top folks be "career"; the influences of the masses passing through the other positions should mitigate any damage they can do.

But, no. Instead, we have wanna-be royalty, and a two-party democracy (go ahead, try to convince me otherwise. And, yes, I remember Perot; I wish that would happen again.). As I said before, America sucks.

I do not believe that the USA has ever been a true democracy, in the Athenian sense of the term. We have been called a representative democracy, but I believe that Dr. Franklin's words are more accurate in description of what America was created to be: "A republic, if you can keep it."
Without officially titled nobility, capitalist societies have always used property as a measure of status -- it's rather become like the law of the urban jungle, really.
But, don't get me wrong, my personal ideals are of quite a different nature... closer to those of the Orang Asli culture of Peninsular Malaysia. I devote my Work to building community; yet living in a free-market economy allows me only as much liberty as I can afford. Eventually, I will be able to actualize my dreams; but for the moment, they are still incubating. One day, my tower will be taller, so that more people will hear our messages... and well-defended enough so that I am not silenced for sharing progressive ideas.
