Made it to Manray for the first time since being back. Actually, it was the first time I've gone to a club in ages. I just got to the point in Vegas where I couldn't work up the ambition to go. I'm admittedly not much of a club goer anyway, I get kind of shell-shocked with the music and the noise, and having to repeat everything that's said, so that I have hard enough time conversing with the people I know, let alone meeting anybody new. But as
deliriumcrow had driven out with some friends from Albany, it seemed worthwhile to actually make the effort.
It was a big crowd, at least it seemed to me coming from the anemic Vegas and Albany scenes, and there was much beauty to behold. My timing was such that while I did indeed arrive before Cate and friends (as I expected, even knowing when they were planning on showing up) I was still on my first drink when they arrived.
I didn't dance as much as I would have liked. I showed up during a particularly good set, but it takes me a little while to feel loose enough to dance. Still, I made some forays onto the floor, and was delighted when they played my favorite Sisters song (read the only Sisters of Mercy I like vs. the ones that I've just heard enough times to recognize). I appreciated the crowd as I'm not always the most confident of dancers and it meant that not only did I not stick out, but that there were people clearly worse than me who did, so I could dance in my own little obscurity.
The oddest moment came in the form of Somebody's Birthday Tango. Where the general dancing was interuppted for a couple to dance a tango to a lounge version of "I like big butts". Cate and I watched in baffled amusement.
Now it appears, I must return again this coming Wednesday as Death in June will be playing. Feel free to leave comments about how much you hate me for that below.
