Matt, fiddling with a solar powered walkway lamp:
"I always mix up which which diode is which on these things"
What? .... After a moment, I remember what LED stands for, and after five more moments, I recall that there're more diodes than the LED in a solar lamp. But .... Matt's like, a quarter my age. When do electronics come up in conversation? And why can't he say "LED" like everyone else?!
So after settling down in the tent, we go through the wandering chit chat that happens just before children fall asleep. We stare at the stars (no rainfly was needed, and my tent is very open without it), notice a few meteors, and ponder how eerie it is for a supernova to be totally silent. I mention neutron stars, so he brings up black holes. That turned into wondering what it's like to be present at an event horizon. Both of us. As in, he has a rough idea of what an event horizon is. Then I tried to explain a worm hole, but I think I failed, because we got off of that track.
Just before falling asleep, Matt idly tells me that Empire Strikes Back is his favorite movie ever.
I don't think I can keep up with him for much longer. If I don't show him a comic book soon, and get back to higher ground, I'm going to have to bow to his nerdiness.
