I'm convinced the Jose Andrés, DC's self-styled Lord of All Tapas, is running an elaborate econo-social expirement....consciously searching out the exact price proposition of food quality and size versus how much people are willing to pay for it. That, or he's losing his marbles.
Witnesseth my recollection of recent dishes:
At his first tapas restaurant downtown, Jaleo: Four Pieces of Seared Shark Glazed with a Tangerine Reduction: $4.00
At his second tapas restaurant downtown, La Tasca: Three Spiced and Steamed Crayfish on a bed of Fried Rice: $5.00
At his third tapas restaurant downtown, Zaytinya: Two Scallops in a Cream Sauce: $6.00
and tonight at his his brand new fourth downtown tapas joint, Oyamel:
A seven-dollar taco.
A Taco. For seven dollars.
I find it very discouraging that the Oyamel was packed to capacity...
