I feel very blessed that I now have the patience to take the train to my folks' for thanksgiving...a few years back, a 17 hour trip anywhere would've been a nightmare (I distinctly reacall the flight to Johannesburg being an unspeakable hell of unquenchable boredom. Both ways.)...but, the trip was actually enjoyable. I board the train, read a book, go to sleep, wake up, have a coffee, read another book, and I'm there. Same deal on the way back, and I barely notice the time passing.
For a person as energetic as myself, its a major personal accomplishment to be able to pull this off so gracefully. Especially nice considering that trains to central Florida are much cheaper than winter flights...
