and the week isn't over yet

Let's see. Monday was mammogram day. Thankfully no retakes were needed so my breasts were saved added squishing. Everything appears to be okay and unless I hear from my doctor in about two weeks then I'm good for another year.
Tuesday was a relatively quiet day although our oldest daughter did call and tell me that our grandson has fluid on his lungs. He has had a pretty nasty "coughfezz", as he calls them, for over a week. I guess our daughter hoping to help the poor guy get some sleep gave him some Benylin cough syrup. It helped calm his cough but also kept all the junk in his lungs. Our grandson is now on antibiotics to take care his cough and the fluid on his lungs.
Today was a something else all together. It started off pretty good, I took Teddy and Sophie to the groomers. They were much better behaved this time and this is what they looked like when I brought them home:

The Dynamic Duo

Sophie aka Princess. When it's time to go to their kennels for the night Sophie hops up on the sofa or chair and refuses to budge. I have to carry her to "bed" every night. Any other time of the day she will trot right in if I'm going out and quite often sleeps in her kennel during the day. We seem to have the "carry me" ritual for bed time.

After the dogs were dropped off at the groomers it was time to try and capture Shadow and taken him/her to the vet. Foolishly I did NOT wear work gloves on my first attempt at trying to hang on to four flying razor blades. This is the result of my foolishness:

My left hand wasn't too badly mauled. I have a one inch slash on my palm just below my pinky and a gouge about an inch from my wrist.

My right hand (probably because I am right handed) didn't fare so well as you can see by the above pictures. Several scratches on the back on my hand, and "nice" one on my wrist too. The worst is the slash at the base on my pinky about an inch in length and puncture marks where Shredder..I mean Shadow bit me.

After going inside to wash my wounds I put on work gloves and was able to catch Shadow, and Hubby closed the door on the kennel trapping Shadow inside. We arrive at the vet and the well gloved assistant wrestled Shadow into submission where upon we discovered that Shadow is a he and that the blood on him was his. The assistant suggested that they sedate Shadow and then suggested having him neutered, giving him his shots and an examination all while he was out. I thought it was an excellent idea. We then went to the health clinic in town to have my hands checked out on the advice of the assistant. I received a tetanus shot and was prescribed antibiotic pills, anti-inflammatory pills and an antibiotic ointment. While at the health clinic the vet's assistant called and informed me that Shadow had a cut on his gums, two of his feet had cuts on the pads, he had ear mites and they estimated that he was four or five months old. They would take care of everything and I could pick up Shadow between 3:30 and 4:00 pm which I did. The vet prescribed antibiotics for Shadow and had bandaged his two injured feet. Thankfully I don't have to give the antibiotics directly to Shadow, it goes on his food. Shadow doesn't seem to mind the truck (perhaps because he stowed away on it originally) unlike our other cats who complain long and loud when ever they are in the car. After we got home I took a couple of pictures of Shadow:

I set the carrier down and opened the door. Shadow stayed inside until I started to lift the top half off so that I could take the blanket that was in it out and put in a clean one. He shot out of the kennel like a rocket and hid somewhere in the garage. Hubby set up a space heater in the garage so that Shadow will be a little warmer.

Today's little adventure with Shadow cost us $270.95 at the vet and $63.59 for my prescriptions. I'm glad that we were able to catch Shadow and have him neutered and looked after. I don't know if hw will ever come in the house. Our dogs like to play with cats (ours don't mind too much) but if they tried to play with Shadow I would be back to the vets in a heartbeat with two battered dogs. For now he is safe and dry, being fed and cared for even if it's from a safe distance. Given his skittish nature I'd say he's been outside on his own for a while but I don't think he is a feral cat because he uses the litter box that I set up in the garage. He may leave on his own accord once the warmer weather arrives but if he doesn't in all likelihood I'll have our oldest daughter take him to her friends farm where he can join the rest of the barn cats. We will just have to wait and see.

I must go check to see if he has eaten his food and look for bandages that he may have already torn off.
