A temporary fix has been put in place for the septic system. A pump has been put into the second tank and it will pump liquid out when ever the level gets too high and until a permanent solution is found. Now I can do laundry and run the dishwasher without having to worry about a back up into the house. We are waiting on info from the county and at least one other agency. Once we have the info and have all the options laid out for us we will be able to move forward.
I have to admit, more than once in the last few days I regretted buying this place. We thought we had investigated the property sufficiently prior to buying it but it seems that we were incredibly naive about living on an acreage. It has certainly been expensive these past 7 months. Based on some rough calculations I don't think the "found" money will stretch far enough to cover the septic problem and new flooring without incurring debt which we don't want to do. We might be able to get new flooring in 6 months or so and that is still ahead of our original time line which was at least 2 years into the future.
While a new septic system isn't nearly as exciting as new flooring; it is necessary. I hope and pray this is the last of the expenses for a good long while. I am very thankful that the "found" money arrived when it did. Instead of a major setback we will come out of all this much further ahead of where we'd be if I hadn't received this settlement.
