Hi.
I am a former student at SUNY Buffalo. It has come to my attention that whichever department is supposed to handle a situation of a student leaving the school at the end of a semester cannot, so I apparently need to make several departments aware.
I have in my lap a bill dated 10/4/2005 for Douglas R Brown, Person Number 31709465, for the Fall 2005 semester. I have made the school aware several times that I do not intend to return as a student, due to your inability to keep your students safe. Jeremiah Kane was contacted by me MONTHS ago, and was made aware I do not intend to return.
In addition, I was given a Traffic Checkstop, and when I called to have it removed, I also made it clear I was not a current student any longer. In addition, your university managed to give a Traffic Checkstop to a student who does not own a car. That seems to be the only department to have any sense, as a student without a car cannot have a parking violation, and it removed the violation promptly.
The Disiplinary Checkstop was applied by Jeremiah Kane, after more than one phone conversation, because your Judiciary Department cannot close a case properly, and I dont have means by which to travel to Buffalo to correct a mistake, for you to assign me community service hours, which I was told by your Judicary Department in PERSON I won't have to serve if I'm not a current student, which I got for defending myself against a intruder in my dorm room. So for you to assign me hours, for your inability to keep me safe, when I won't have to serve them anyway - you want me to return to the state of New York, and finish a hearing that was done incorrectly on YOUR end, and until this is done you are giving me a meaningless checkstop, because yet again in repetition, I AM NOT A CURRENT STUDENT.
When its 7AM and the RA's get out of their rooms due to the screaming of the resident, find a intruder in the room, they have no excuse for not calling the police. It is no excuse to have the one awakened in their bed by a intruder arrested. It is not a reason for the RA's to at no point to enter the room so that the student is safe. The RA's were Shailesh and Kar Lok. It occurred in Wilkeson 439. Why should the school prosecute me, when it really should be the other way around?
You have assigned me community service, that is due only if I am a current student. I have made the school very aware I am not a current student. If you can not pick out of this email that I am saying I am not a current student, then it is your own fault. If I was a student I was registered to dorm in Red Jacket even though I am currently barred from Ellicott, so I really don't know what your records say - I certainly can not commute from Long Island, which is your listed address for me. I have not lived in the room you would have placed me in, I have not been to any class you signed me up for, I have not even been in the state of New York since July.
I am not a current student of your inefficent and unsafe school, and never during the Fall 2005 semester should I have been listed as such. I have signed in for nothing. No teacher there has seen me there in Fall 2005. No student there has seen me there in Fall 2005. No RA, no Hall Director, no Staff have seen me in Buffalo for the Fall 2005 semester. I have not been in Buffalo this Fall. If I had been, I would have signed in for something, don't you think it would have been required?
My records need to be corrected, this bill (as well as the late charge) needs to be reversed. The checkstop needs to be removed. I want a copy of my transcript sent to my listed address, that shows I am not a Fall 2005 student and has no classes that I am supposedly attending listed on it. I want confirmation of all of this via mail and email.
I left a message for the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education via telephone, explaining the situation. And now I have sent this email. I expect your correspondence, as would be expected from whatever integrity level you think your educational institution has. I would like to know why a person that has been done a major disjustice by the school, is being charged for a semester never attended, and I would like to see this corrected. No $250 charge will be for acedemic withdrawl, since that is your own record-keeping errors to be dealt with internally.
My next correspondence will have carbon copies to state officials.
Sincerely,
Douglas Brown

Mr. Brown -
I forwarded your previous message to Ms. Barbara Ricotta, the Dean of
Students, for her review. I have no knowledge of your situation nor do I
have any authority in disciplinary matters. You received an email from me
for one reason only - you are a current student according to UB's records,
and you have a "2" checkstop. Over 700 students in CAS were contacted this
way in a bulk emailing, and I had no way to check on each one personally to
see if they were attending classes. I understand your statement that you
are not attending UB, but you registered for fall 2005 classes on April 17
and never dropped or resigned them. Therefore, when I conducted a search
of the records to identify CAS majors who are enrolled, your record was
part of the return. I will copy Ms. Ricotta with this message, and will
attempt to remove you from any future email contacts from this office.

Hello Ms. Ricotta.
I am pleased to finally be forwarded to the person properly suited to handle the situation. Although there was a point I was signed up for classes and a dorm room, the year ended in a situation where I cannot even enter a acedemic building or dorming building, and it is due to the actions of your university. RA's at my door because I'm screaming for help because people are attacking me and stealing my stuff, and their complete and utter disregard for my well-being is intolerable, and the university punishing me for it is unacceptable. There are no check-stops, I have done nothing wrong except park a non-existant car in a place where a ticket got placed, and then didn't follow up on a hearing that I attended while in Buffalo, but refuse to travel hundreds of miles back to complete, because it was your school inefficiency. So those 2 checkstops even if they weren't meaningless, need to be removed.
SRC and Jeremiah Kane has both been with me on the phone. They are aware I am not a student. I have saved the e-mails I believe. If I am banned from acedemic and residental buildings because you can't keep me safe from your drug-dealing students, I obviously can not be a student. Especially if I'm banned for self defense by the committee who must not be able to review a situation remotely correctly or fairly. You cannot charge me for a acedemic withdrawl. I would have to had partisipated in the Fall Semester to withdraw, and I didn't. I will have no fee because you have nothing to say I was a student except prior to a date you removed that status from me. I have not set foot in Buffalo since June, and honestly I am disgusted with the town and never intend to go back unless I am ever required by any party to return for legal matters. I'm still waiting for that spring semester bill to come, as your office has proven its ineffiency many times.
I want the $110 in room damages dissolved. That was the result of your university forcing me to abandon my stuff, since I was not allowed in. Return my lamps, DVD'S, CD's, pictures, and everything else I had to leave behind, and I'll then send a check for $110. Otherwise, the charge can be dropped or I can be compensated for the value of my stuff, which is well over $110. Also room damages were accessed while I was not allowed in the dorms. So with no walk-over of the room with the RA, no damage can be claimed as mine. The hole in the wall was Michael Cheplowitz slamming the door too hard and Nate Resnick picking out the paint pieces. Dartboard holes in the back of the door were from the previous year and were noted to me the first day of freshman year. There is no damage to bill me for.
The late fee is for a invalid charge. There is no late fee if there is no charge.
I have not attended the school, and made the school aware of that before the semester. The fact that your departments have NEVER been able to communicate with each other properly is not my problem, and will never be. And neither will be a $250 fee to justify your inefficiency.
Ms. Ricotta, forward me my transcript, unlist me as a student, adjust the bill, and clean the slate. I don't feel under the circumstances I have described it is a unreasonable request.
I look forward to your response, I have awaited resolution to this issue for months.

Contains the correspondence between me and the University at Buffalo. My only pondering is do I reply with a thanks for the review it took half a year to start and send it past the school, up the county and state, as high up as Hillary Clinton, or wait to see what she says? The president and vice president of the school may need to become aware of this as well. Should I wait, carbon-copy, or blind-carbon copy. Reply and Forward are wonderful things.
I have the Dean of Students in direct contact with me, seems you have to mention the state government or a lawsuit before they take you seriously. A secretary for the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education telling me if I pay $250 they'll see if they can fix their own mistake just doesn't fly.
Also, if anyone just does read this large jumbled mess over think its worth pursuing a lawsuit against the school?
Anyone thats ever thought about pissing me off, might need to reconsider now. A hungry Doug is a very vicious Doug.
