Rachael Foundation
I can't begin to tell you guys how excited I am. Not to even mention Christine and Renee. They are so excited.
Remember when I talked to everyone of you and ask you for your commitment? Everyone commited to this. Well this is it. We're starting and I hope everyone sticks to their word.
Well when I came up with the idea of the t shirts, I did not know it was going to be this big. I figured, we'd make a couple shirts raise you know maybe two or three thousand dollars and we would be done. Well this is no longer the case. The plan is to make a full on foundation not to pay just for the memorial, but also to help others as well.
Here's what has been discussed.
WHAT: A foundation will be made. It has no name, we want everyone's help coming up with a name.
WHAT WILL IT DO: It will 1. raise funds in order to 2. raise AWARENESS about organ donation. Too many people do not know the real facts about being an organ donor. Too many people don't sign up to be an organ donor, so even if they supported it the paramedics have no way of knowing. and ABSOLUTELY too many people die everyday waiting for an organ.
HOW: our first task is to RAISE MONEY. This means you, me, us. Mal, Noni, Kato, Katie, Shelly. Us.I think everyone can cough up at least $50, and please please please ask your parents too! Especially those who knew Rach, I am SURE they would help.
Our deadline to come up with as much money as we can is MARCH 1st.
WHAT WILL THAT MONEY BE USED FOR: 1. To buy the Tshirts 2. for rach's monument 3. to legally become a nonprofit foundation (which costs around $700) 4. To host events to raise more money and awareness.
WHAT TYPE OF EVENTS DO YOU SPEAK OF?: Local concerts with bands, where we can sell the shirts and get more people to sign up to be organ donors, going to high schools, DMV offices, blood drives, hosting art shows, anything and anywhere where we can raise awareness.
One of our big targets is young people, when we are young we make up our minds and opinions and it's important that we reach people at that point. If you can think of an event. write it down and tell me about it!
WHAT WILL THE TSHIRTS HAVE ON THEM? - you tell me! We want EVERYONE'S help coming up with a design! Google organ donation tshirts, facts, logos, anything to do with organ donation and TELL US! save the best ones! and we'll put them all together. What do you think would be freaking awesome on a shirt? What would you want to wear?! What do you think is most important that people learn about organ donation? WE NEED YOUR INPUT.
HOW WILL WE DECIDE WHICH ONE TO PRINT THOUGHT? - I will make a couple designs out of the Tshirts that we think represent our cause best, and then we (You, me, your sister and neighbor{or as katie would say, nabor}) WILL VOTE on which one we want to print! we need your comitment and complete participation on the whole process.
OK,OK, I GET IT, YOU NEED MY HELP COMING UP WITH A NAME AND A T SHIRT DESIGN, BUT WHERE DO I POST WHAT I THINK?
As we speak Renee is working on a blog, a blog where we can all communicate and decide.It is not ready yet, but I will tell you AS SOON as it is so we can get started.
