I got a call from the HR department of the university; tomorrow I have to drive into Chicago to do some sort of testing or assessment. It will take about 2 hours, and will deal with Word, Excel, typing, editing...
I don't know if this means I have the job and they're just seeing where I am so maybe they can decide on a salary? Or if they're deciding between a couple people and want to see who does this sort of work better before they make an offer? One of my references told me that they called him last week and they "REALLY" like me, so I'm hoping that's something good. I'm just not sure, since she didn't tell me to bring a social security card/drivers license/birth certificate/passport/etc, nor did she say "we'd like to offer you a job"...
I'm not worried about the typing part of it. Apparently I can type at a rate of 12,000 kpm with 100% accuracy (or so was the case in October when I was applying for something). I know Word well enough, and enough about Excel that I can use formulas, insert columns/rows, format cells, etc... however I do have a few tutorials that I may run over tonight and tomorrow morning before heading in. I am not going to worry about Access or Publisher, because I've already told them those are programs I'm not yet familiar with.
Part of me thinks that if this was really something that they were going to largely base their decision on, it would have been part of the interview - and I would have done it last week when I went in, instead of them asking me back several (5) days later. And when I was there last week, the Director said they hoped to have an offer out within 7 days, which would be this Wednesday; the HR person I spoke with told me I could come in any time this week that was good for me. I'm trying not to be too sre about it just because I'm often waiting for the other shoe to drop... but I'm certainly keeping my fingers crossed!
