I was going through the S4 deleted scenes today and came across the ones for 4.10. I'd seen the one with Castiel and Uriel a while ago, but I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed it and how it is very much relevant to my interests. Just a simple picspam tonight (more noir soon, maybe?) because the way the scene was lit was quite lovely... probably before postproduction or whoever got their hands on the filters and muted everything.
This is before (presumably) Zachariah decides Castiel has become too attached to Dean and demotes him. It's actually quite an interesting, short character study of Castiel; out of all his pre-4.16 scenes, it's the one--aside from 4.07, maybe--where he's uncompromising on adherence to the authority of the higher-ups, but even more strikingly, the fact that he's (at the moment anyway) Uriel's boss, and what he says goes.
Lecturing! I thought Robert Wisdom kind of overplayed this scene, maybe because Uriel is perfectly restrained and menacing practically everywhere else. You get the sense he's seriously starting to lose his patience with the Winchesters and the current state of affairs.
Other than the tiny, adorable half-smile/laugh in 4.07, I think this is the only time we actually see Cas half-smile. Despite the fact that he doesn't joke (established here; reiterated in 4.16 and 4.18), he seems to be taking a certain amount of pleasure in telling Uriel that every source of irritation in his life--Dean Winchester, Sam Winchester, and Ruby--has to remain unsmitten.
DO ME.
Flipping through the scene also reminded me how pissed I am that Uriel's dead. Awesome work, SPN writers!
