I told myself I wouldn't post again until I had something useful, like fic or art, or something happy. Well, I sort of have art, and I do have some nice things.
Useful and cool thing: I have to tell you about my friend E (who is one of the numerous awesome people on my flist), who serves a low-income school in Louisiana and is trying to get a multimedia projector for classroom use. You can check her story out, and donate if you can, over at her
donations page, which also more fully describes what she needs and her plans for it. Got $5? $10? However much? Please consider donating!
First fannish thing: This is not really art, but argh Photoshop has been unusually troublesome lately. Well, everything's been troublesome, no lack of ideas, but absolutely zero ability to execute. There are two art pieces buzzing around my brain, and yet I seem unable to get them to mesh... So, in the meantime, I fell on the most recent round of SPN 4.16 screenshots like a ravening, photoshopping wolf and played around with CS4's nifty photo filter and some textures.
I have a very, very deep love for this shot. The colors, contrast, the look in Dean's eyes, the blood...
As
22by7 and I discussed in chat, and as has been discussed elsewhere, Castiel is so totally noir. I mean, look at him here, in his trench coat, in a seedy motel room, waiting and angsting quietly to himself. What also intrigues me is the towel dropped on the other bed. WHAT IS IT DOING THERE, DO YOU THINK?
Other fannish happy thing:
@misha... I'm giving a PowerPoint presentation at a Vancouver event tomorrow discussing my treatise, "Anomic Vectors in the Postmodern Workforce." It should be interesting. If attending, please bring a pen, a piece of black construction paper, & an egg for the mind-control experiment. He makes my heart happy, y'all. IDEK.
RL happy thing: I had a cheering conversation with the advisor today. He's sort of relentlessly optimistic, but pragmatic, which helps take the edge off the worst of my pessimism when it comes to my chances on the job market this year. (I actually found a listing recently for a job that is exactly what I want, in the place that I want, and I'm putting together my application for it. Send good thoughts/blackmail letters to the hiring committee!) Also, the firsties acquitted themselves well in our first official discussion, which was a huge relief.
