IJ, ick ick ick

Oh my God, it's absolutely horrible outside, like a zillion percent humidity and thunder in the distance. *shudder*

I picked up an IJ account just to keep an eye on people, because I don't know what fandom's doing (or if fandom knows what it's doing) and it's kind of freaking me out. So I'm aesc over there as well ( Read more... )

Bah. Seriously LJ, wank is fun in its right place sometimes, but all this is making me tired and annoyed.

Fyi, not that I think I'll need it, but a while back (before strikethrough2007) I got a journal at Greatest Journal, I'm mardia there too.

I too have a very limited tolerance for it. I'm about at my limit right now, and I've done what I can to back up all my stuff and make sure I have some kind of fallback position in case something happens, which is kind of all I can do.

Not cut out for drama and wank, no, not at all. I wants the fic and the pretty back, please.

I am fairly new (little over a year) to LJ, and I'm really concerned about people leaving. I've made some great "friends" here and like you say, I hate to get it all pulled out from under. What are the alternative sites besides Greatest Journal?

Some people have left, which is the thing. Mercifully no one I know right now, but my paranoid imagination has always been lively :/

*jumping in* I'm in the same boat as *le_mot_mo* above. I really wasn't aware of what all the fuss was about. Being fairly new to the writing part, most of my time has been concentrated on that. Do I understand correctly that LJ monitors posts or investigates "reported" posts and if "it" deems the content of that post inappropriate (according to those new guidelines?) they will suspend the user, no questions? Even if that user is a paid or lifetime member? And by suspension, is that a set amount of time or a time determined by LJ? I would assume this would include both art and fiction and if that's true, then I can certainly understand everyone's anxiety, anger, frustration, and wanting to jump ship. There are some extremely talented people at LJ and it really is a shame. I wonder what started everything?? Oh well, didn't mean to drone on like that, just glad to know what this is all about.

Oh, and thanks for the lovely pic!!

In point of fact, LJ's always had the right to monitor content--it's their space, their service, and you agree to that right under their TOS. What I'm less clear on, and what I think LJ isn't clear on at all, is what constitutes something TOSable, and how and by whom a disputed piece of work will be judged. (The current standard LJ says it's using is the Miller Test for obscenity [US].) The fact that they've been unwilling, at least as far as I've been following the debate--which is not assiduously--, to lay out some kind of policy regarding how contested material is handled, and a policy that allows for appeal, is deeply irksome to me ( ... )
