i think that swimming on top of you thing is for SEALs only, 'cause in the Navy you only have to have third class swimmer certification. in boot camp, they have you jump off a 10 foot platform into the water, then swim 50 yards (any stroke) and you're done.

Navy divers, though, have it real rough. rescue diver is one of the hardest, if not THE hardest job in the Navy. back in the day (i don't know if they still do this) they used to put you in yer full gear, AKA giant metal suit, toss ya (or rather let you climb down) below a pier, and they'd throw giant pieces of pipe and bags of tools down, and you had to assemble stuff underwater.

there wasn't a time limit, but it took most people about eight hours. EIGHT HOURS! eight hours underwater in a metal suit, trying to see and put things together. gotta love those Navy divers!

but anyway. yeah, i'm scared crapless to go to SERE training... i don't wanna be one of those 2-3 people per year that die during it.

although, considering how many people go through it, that's not too bad a number. i think more people die in Marine scout/sniper school (where john wants to go) than that. :P
