So Sunday was a pretty hot day and after lunch, my mom was in the mood for ice cream. We headed out to this town which is only 20-30 minutes away where their ice cream parlour is famous for their homemade ice cream. As you can imagine, there was a long line-up... I ended up getting pistachio-almond (yum!), my sister tried the avacado (kind of bland) and my mom had moccachino. By the time we got back, it was well into the afternoon. At this point, I was sleepy so I ended up taking my usual weekend nap~
Except... When I woke up, my left eye was super irritated, like there was something lodged behind my eye. My eye itself looked normal, but the outer corner around it looked slightly swollen and was really tender. Not only that, but the pain was constant. Blink, and it hurts. I couldn't see anything in my eye either, like sometimes you can see an eyelash which is irritating it. Not this time.
The pain has been constant the whole time, so yesterday, I decided to book an appointment to get my eye checked out. Like it's so uncomfortable. Imagine a grain of sand (or something!) lodged in the socket behind your eye... That's basically the feeling, along with a bit of tenderness around the eye itself. THANKFULLY, I was able to get in pretty quick for an appointment, aka the next day.
Left work a little early today to get there on time, and when the doctor checked me out... He said I basically have some form of dry eye because he could see dry patches on my cornea (eww...) and how sometimes when the eyelid isn't healthy, it can affect the eye itself. My tear ducts aren't producing "good tears" or "enough tears" to keep the eye lubricated, so it's getting irritated. Because the overall area is dry, it started affecting my eye itself... =__=;;
The good thing is that it isn't some kind of weird infection! I always get paranoid when I have some unexplainable symptom since my mind imagines the worst... But yeah, he "prescribed" hot compresses for the eyes and these gel drops that are supposed to help with serious dry eyes. I hope it helps... I don't want it to be anything more serious... Eek!
So yup... Hot compress twice a day, and the drops 4-6 times a day. I guess I should start using drops in general, since the air here is so dry. Also doesn't help with these Washington forest fires. It has been really, really hazy because all the smoke has been blowing our way. On top of that, we have our own forest fires in my province and the province over. It just has been way to dry everywhere!
