Today I bought 4 pounds of B cut from
this alpaca It ran me $60 which is a little more than I wanted to pay but the color is amazing.
Of course, I had to teach Kevin how to card so I could spin when we got home, unhindered by making my own batts. Man it is amazing how quickly this stuff spins up.
It's a little scratchy right now, thanks to the short fiber length, but I think that a good soak in vinegar and conditioner after plying will soften it right up.
The farm has 5 years of stored fiber available. The B (belly, legs and neck) cut is around $1.50 per ounce and the A cut (the blanket) is $2.50. She also has the most amazing black baby alpaca available. It's B but softer than most of the A I played with.
If anyone wants her contact info or wants to get some fiber from her, let me know and I will facilitate. Her stuff is really quite soft, even the B grade.
