...so, I was all bummed 'cause my first choice of agency turned me down. But, oh, yeah -
IT WASN'T MY FIRST CHOICE OF AGENCY.
It was the very first one to which I queried, having to fill out this annoying little online form thing instead of the traditional query letter. I discovered this when I went to update my Query Spreadsheet in Excel.
It still sucks a little that I was rejected (at the same time as it's so utterly invigorating that words can barely describe it - and I'm a writer), but there's also that nagging little hope that maybe, just maybe my first choice won't let me down. 'Course, I'm nearing the four week mark now. There's the two-week grace period in there and then I start to bite my nails.
Well, maybe I won't bite my nails, 'cause they're looking very pretty lately.
Also - they're my first choice 'cause they're GOOD. So... why would they take a look at little ol' me?
I have to keep reminding myself that Harry Potter and Twilight (ugh) were both rejected well over ten times (nearly twice that in Harry's case), and they are what they are today.
I don't dare consider myself audacious enough to group myself with the genius talent that Rowling gives us, nor do I claim to have the appeal of everyone's inner desires like Bella/Edward/Jacob are (fuck Meyer - she had a DREAM, thus proving my point), but if it took even them several rounds to get rolling, then I can handle a few rejections.
Optimism, HO!
