This is an amazing analogy to describe the relationship I lost, which she used to describe one of her own.
When you're used to something so grand and welcoming and sometimes perfect, trying to adjust yourself to something so meager just doesn't work. You try desperately to make it bear some semblance of what once was, but unless the wading pool decides to change, of its own accord, it's not going to.
Time machines. Time machines and a shit-ton of lame gifts and apologies would make everything better.
But instead of a time machine I have the present. Instead of lame gifts I have memories.
Apologies I have. But wading pools don't care. They're too small to take a heart - maybe a toe or two.
