Thanks for the well-wishes and concerns for my dad. He's home now, and feeling much better. I went up to get him on Saturday and my brother and sister in law came down with the adorable nephew yesterday to visit.
The issue is one of the ducts coming out of his liver. He has a tube holding one open, and looking at the films, it was clear that another one was blocked. This had my mom pretty worried for what it means in the long-term - at the very least, likely a second tube, at the worst, we could look at another transplant, which is a big deal because second transplant survival rates are much, much lower.
The liver team at OSU pushed the radiology guy to go back in and take a look at that duct - he apparently put up some resistance. It turns out that they are supposed to clean it out every time he gets a tube change - so about every month. Paperwork indicated that it hadn't been done since last August. Radiology guy dropped the ball.
So they did a procedure on Friday, and it was like flipping a switch. Cleaned it out, and he's much, much better, eating fine, and mostly suffering the after effects of medication and having been ill - tired, a bit weak, not sleeping well despite the tired. Another few days and he'll probably be back in tip-top shape.
And while we are not happy about the incident, we are happy that it doesn't look like he'll need another tube or any of the other scary options - they just need to remember to clean it out according to the regular schedule!
