People seem to forget that we are a democratic republic, and being such can alter the constitution (the phrase liberty and justice for all is not in the constitution by the way). If the majority wishes to change the constitution, they can do so by democracy (it takes a super-majority in congress I believe). So please don't state the pledge of allegiance as grounds for disliking a Texas constitutional amendment. And the whole separation of church and state is taken way too far anyway. It simply means that their will be no state sponsored religion. This amendment is not outlawing non-christian marriage. It is outlawing gay marriage. So the amendment in itself is not Christian. True the majority of it's supporters happen to be Christian, and Christianity is what makes them believe that gay marriage is wrong. That doesn't make the amendment Christian. I would also like to note that the only reason I bring up constitutionality of this is because it is a state constitution, which must be in line with the national constitution. As ( ... )

I think the past way to explain my position is to state my solution.

I think gay marriage is wrong and that it shouldn't happen. But the govt can't tell the religions who they can and cannot join in marriage. The govt can pass an amendment defining justice of the peace marriages as between a man and a woman, but must still recognize any marriage condoned by a religious authority. (I believe marriage is a religious institution) If a Christian church wishes to be hypocritcal and marry a gay couple, that is their perogative. I would however, no longer have respect for that church. Basically I think gay marriage is wrong and shouldn't happen, but the govt can only govern state marriages.

the amendment in it's self is not christian. It was motivated by christian "morality" and you know it. And if anything in this comment has already been addressed by yours im sorry, i just dont have the patience to read such bullshit.

Yes it was addressed. Even the very part you are upset about. I did state that it was motivated by Christian morality. When will you realize that if you would read all of the "bullshit" you just might find that it isn't this supposed "bullshit"? Please pay me the respect of reading what I say before responding to it, I give you that. Your apology would be better served actually reading things my friend.

What upsets me is your belief that the majority has the right to descriminate against the minority. Might makes right? I liked you better before you were a "Christian".

Majority rule with minority rights. That's what our country is based on. The minority rights is why it is hard to pass an amendment. That way the majority can't pass something on a whim. But by making an amendment such as this, you further define the rights of gays, thus it is not discrimination.

I don't appreciate the "Christian" comment. My belief in this, and my understanding of how our country works has nothing to do with my Christianity. I am sorry however that you liked me better before I renewed my Christianity in full. I know I am a better person, more importantly I know that God knows it. I just really do not appreciate your degrading my religious beliefs, especially when they have nothing to do with my argument against the typical liberal on this issue.

I miss the Chance that would listen to me and not dismiss what I say as bullshit.

Hey Guess what? I'm a christian, and you know what else, Prop 2 is wrong.

Sorry but "separation of Church and State" just doesn't apply here, the government implemented tax breaks and benefits to married couples, and now there denying that very thing to homosexuals.

I have no problem with gay's getting married, because marriage means nothing now-a-days (except in a very small percentage of people who actually marry for love). The only reason why this is such a big deal is because homosexuals want the tax breaks...that's it.

The government has no right to say no to a liberty provided to heterosexuals. It's the basic concept of "if you bring candy for yourself, you have to bring it for the whole class too, or not bring it at all".

This argument wasn't directed to either one of you, it's just that I agree with Chance when he says he doesn't like the approach most people take to it.

*High fives Chance*

It's still not a good reason to hate Texas though, This is the coolest state ever...don't believe me? read my past LJ entries. =)

I don't know you, but after reading your post I feel that you might be more effective if you tried to convince your white, heterosexual friend's families that gay marriage is okay.

You do have white, heterosexual friends, right?

Maybe you already do that...who knows? I'm just trolling random posts.
