Okay, so you may have gathered by now that I have two road bike sub-projects going on at once. One is the complete build of my
new awesome touring bike. And the other is the vintage restoration of my late seventies/early eighties
Schwinn Traveler (mine is red, actually
this one is probably closer).
The Plan:
- I am planning on getting the frame re-powder-coated later this month at Superior Powder Coating in Fenton, MI.
- I have purchase the correct replacement decals.
- The stock pedals are on their way-- also an eBay purchase.
- I was able to find ONE, and only one (no mistakes, Aero) roll of the ORIGINAL bar tape-- eBay rules.
- And the piece de resistance, the seat. These Schwinns all had the standard black vinyl seat, but they had a metal placard affixed to the rear of them that said "SCHWINN". I am bidding on this one now... eBay, I love you.
After all of the above are taken care, I will probably bring the bike down to
the local shop and have them give the drive train, brakes, and cables a once over... just make sure they are up to snuff... perhaps replace or repair any of that in need of some TLC... and then... I will have one ROCKIN' Vintage Schwinn.
