Still not much going on here (that's starting to sound a bit redundant!). I am actually ahead on Christmas stuff for once in my life. I got my Christmas cards in the mail by last Thurday, and people have started receiving them. That's the first time I got my cards out before December. Usually I procrastinate until about two weeks before Christmas, then realize that I HAVE to get them in the mail if I want people to get them by Christmas. I actually made a point to write brief notes in all of my cards, and full-fledged letters in some, particularly to the long list of former Meijer co-workers that I've acquired. There's Mia (my old boss whom I love dearly), Julie (she has get-togethers a couple of times a year since she moved and writes me all the time), Evelyn (I worked with her in Women's for five years before she retired), Mariann (still works there) and Cheryl (who just left within the last month to go full-time at her other job for better pay). I theoretically could get cards for all my friends in my department, and various friends scattered around in other departments, and a few choice managers.
I also managed to get almost all of my Christmas shopping done today after work, all without leaving the store. I got my dad Seinfeld Season 4 on DVD. Since he's so hard to shop for, one year I decided to let him pick a t.v. show out a few of his favorites that had a lot of seasons on DVD, and it would be one long continuous present each Christmas. I still have at least another three years worth of Christmas gifts since Seinfeld Season 7 just came out. I got my mom a 16 piece dishware set decorated with snowmen. Last winter she developed a snowman obsession since that was a decoration she could leave out all winter, not just at Christmas. I also got her a snowman dish towel set and a snowman dish that she could use as a candy dish or whatever.
I still have to get Michael one more thing on my list for him. When we were in Charleston this summer, we went to the aquarium there, and they had a sea turtle rescue thing going on. They had a ton of sea turtle merchandise in the gift shop. Since Michael is a turtle freak (he has five pet turtles and collects turtle figurines), I got a bunch of sea turtle stuff for him there. I felt like I'd hit the jackpot with all the things to choose from. I also plan to buy him Season 2 of House on DVD. That's a gift I'll get to enjoy too, since we both love House.
I'm also contemplating getting my brother something. Since he's majoring in Geology, I thought about getting him something useful, like the book "Great Jobs for Geology Majors." I read the book in that series written for Psychology Majors this past summer, and found it extremely useful. I found myself wishing I'd read it while I was still in college. If I don't get him that, I can always get him something squirrel related, since he likes squirrels. Don't ask about that one.
I just looked out the window of the laundry room a little bit ago, and we had about an inch of snow on the ground. I can't tell if it's still snowing or not. Arg. I hate snow. Hopefully the roads will be clear by the time I leave for work tomorrow.
Time for me to close and get to bed early for once.
