50 fics?

Dec 17, 2007 13:03

I've noticed that some people on my flist have written over 100 fics, so I decided to count mine. I haven't even got up to 50 and I've been writing for 10 years off and on (obviously more off than I thought)! Never mind, I'm just happy that I'm still writing.

And if you're interested in what I have written there is so far:

I think getting to 42 is great! And honselt? 210,000 words? OMG!!! *runs and hides*

More than half my 100 fics are drabbles!! And I've only ever written 2 things over 5000 words! You're word count is amazing

I don't know if I'd call it amazing, maybe uncontrolled. *g* My more recent stuff is a little more restrained with only 1 fic being a monster of over 50,000 words; I've got 3 drabbles to my name now and everything else is between 250 and 4,000 words. It feels good to not feel the need to write something huge, and not be able to. If I want to write a scene, I will, but I no longer have to try to incorporate it into something bigger. And you know what? That's fun!

OK, the 'scenes' may get expanded upon without me initially intending to (as happened with my Ace and Jack story, and one of the Methos/Jack stories) and that's been due to positive feedback and brainstorming in comments. Sometimes the stories just want to be expanded upon... I mean, I bet you never intended to have Alien Donuts infiltrating so many fandoms, did you? *g*

are you going to do tardis_bigbang? It sounds like you would probably be able to manage that word minimum.

Writing is weird. Sometimes I just have a snapshot in my head of a scene- like the Hunter ficlet- I just wanted to show this betrayed emotion and Jack as this dark figure sneaking around in the night. It didn't need to be wordy.

But then there was my original SGA/TW crossover, I had this little scene in my mind to tell, but then there was this dialogue bit I wanted to incorporate into it as well, and *poof* 12k words.

Some stories/universes NEED to keep going. Especially the alien donuts!

I've thought about the tardis_bigbang, but I'm not always good at keeping to a schedule. I got stuck around 14,000 words with the Mystery We Are and didn't write anything for 3 months. When I did start writing again I posted regularly until I'd finished it nearly 40,000 words and 3 months later so I can write a fair volume in a given time, but I don't know if I'll be able to this time. I'm still thinking about it though and may yet be able to be persuaded.

It's both surprising and disconcerting when you realise how much stuff you've written over the years. If I put this much dedication into my education I'd have my elusive degree no problem.

It's quality not quantity that counts, and yours are quality.

42! Brilliant, you can't let that slide without comment :)

yours are quality

Thank you. That means a hell of a lot to me.

And as for 42, I'm trying to get the HHGTTG part of my brain engaged, especially when you consider the name I've given this place... but Chelmsford 123 keeps interrupting (I'm not sure if anyone on here actually *remembers* Chelmsford 123 and good old Badvok) as does Red Dwarf and Monty Python. Maybe if I keep on saying 'Ni!' loud enough they'll all go away and let me think!

Lesse... five NaNos, three off season novels too. And as for actual random bits of fic, uh... I dunno, best guess about twenty? I'm not sure if that should count the really crap stuff I've since retconned, but then again, all but two of those novels went to Retcon Hell too. Hmm.

Whatever, you still have me beaten.

*five* NaNos? OMG! That's... a lot of words! And 2 novels? *thud* Never mind all the retconned stuff (I like that terminology btw).

I sit in awe of you (I'd stand, but I just fell over).
