How sad, but also how hopeful. It is sad that Jack can't remain here with them, but I'm glad he got to say a proper goodbye to Tosh and Owen and Ianto. Perhaps it will help him recover. And I'm glad that Ianto has a very realistic view of the future. It's nice to see that level of maturity.

Glad you find it hopeful. I like hopeful and I think I need it as an antidote to CoE even more than I did before with Torchwood. I think all my Ianto muses are realists for some reason and as for maturity, even in your 20s you don't go through as much personal grief as Ianto did without gaining some.

*nods* I wish more writers wrote Ianto as a realist. It's how I see him, which is, I think, one of the reasons I'm not quite... satisfied? with the Jack/Ianto relationship. Don't get me wrong, I tend to ship them together, as you very well know, but there is also something inherently unsatisfying in it for me when I consider it from Ianto's POV.

Yeah, I sometimes get the feeling that he knows he should get out of that relationship but just can't help himself.

Exactly! I think being a realist, he knows Jack is bad for him but also knows he doesn't have a long life span: of all of them he is, I think, the most aware of what a limited life span he has in Torchwood.
