So if Jack/Ianto is Janto
And Gwen/Jack is Gwack

Does that mean Rhys/Andy would be Rhandy?

fandom, torchwood

*giggle* Yes. Yes it does. That's the only thing that makes sense.

HEE!

I hate 'smushed' names, but that made me smile for some reason.

hee YES!

When daughter and I went to see Barrowman at the Dome we were wondering if he would bemoan the fact our city doesn't have a basketball team anymore, just so he could say 'Randy Duck' Alas it wasn't to be - his 'people' just mustn't have done their research well enough...

As a smushed name goes, it gave me giggle.

You should write and enlighten JB, I'm sure he'll be disappointed about missing an opportunity like that!

Randy is a great guy - he took a lot of ribbing for his name while he was over here :D

It's actually RANDY, but I can't tell you why ;)

Spoilsport ;)
Still, as I generally dislike the smushing of names in ships (and don't use them) it doesn't make any difference.

Go to bed now. You'll feel better in the morning.

Really.

Why isn't it Jen?

I'll probably feel *worse* in the morning as I'll have had *another* blimmin night shift. Hate the buggers.

Considering I don't like smushed names I have to say if I was going to use a Gwen/Jack one I'd much prefer Gwack as it kind of lets me put more of my feelings about the ship into how I say it!

I am not a Gwen/Jack fan to say the least: not because I don't think Jack would take the opportunity if Gwen provided it - I'm sure he would, he's Jack - but because I don't like where that leaves Rhys. The thought that Gwen would just turn her back on him in the name of self-gratification and indulgence, especially after she nearly destroyed the world to bring him back, makes me mote than a little annoyed.

Whoops (climbs down off soapbox). Got a little carried away there.

Sounds reasonable to me, but I don't watch Torchwood (I don't get BBC America on my cable). However, I agree I don't like pairing up two characters and ignoring their canon relationships--it just feels wrong to me, but I'm not a great fan of adultery. (Says she who started a story where the first act is an act of adultery...)

I'm also not a great fan of smushing names, since it seems to lessen both characters for cuteness.

YES. That's it EXACTLY.

XD

I love a good pun me, and one that gently mocks smushing slash pairings is even funnier ;-)

The smushing of names is probably the only other thing in fanfic that really annoys me, the primary one being the misuse of the term 'drabble', so to have a smush name that makes me smile is good - kind of.

We *never* smushed names in Trek or Highlander fandom in the 1990s (although seeing Kirk/Spock as Kock would have given me a giggle) so I don't see why it has to be done with the likes of Torchwood, SGA and Smallville (not that I read Smallville stuff, I just can't miss the smush when everyone refers to the main pairing as Clex). Maybe I'm just getting old, but characters have as much right to their names and individuality as we have!

Lol. With you 100% on that.

Spangel and Spander are the ones that especially get my back up.
