So now I’m in the home stretch. I only have 4 more days of being at the home office until I get to go back to my normal routine with Will and Alvin. Granted its been really good to see how everything is put together and how things are supposed to be when the aircraft comes off the line. The thing is I could have easily done all of this in one week rather than 2. This weekend wasn’t too bad. The air museum was amazing. I have some of the pictures posted on my facebook page, but that really doesn’t do the place justice. The outside doesn’t look like much of anything and the inside is a little worn, but the exhibits themselves are very well done. I took pictures of a lot of things as well as the planes and the signs that described them. I easily spent 4 hours there and would have stayed longer if I had some company. The museum is divided into 3 hangars and then an outside area. The first hangar was the military hangar which had aircraft like the F86 Saber, F14 B Tomcat, F6F Hellcat and F4U Corsair along with many others that I can’t recall at this time. The next was the civilian hangar that had CAP planes, classic cars, and even the first toilet used for the ISS (which I thought was somewhat out of place, but was ironically right beside the restrooms). The last was the B29 Superfortress “Jack’s Hack” It is a recreation due to the original being sent to scrap after its service. I met one of the WWII vets that was working on it who showed me some pictures of the original. He was telling me about what it took to do the re-creation and told me that if I had come on Sunday rather than Saturday he would have been able to take me inside and showed me what they had done. Outside they had a few other aircraft that were in various states of disrepair or damage due to the elements. Along with all the aircraft they had some really nice history exhibits on WWII, the Wright brother, Igor Sikorsky as well as the early pioneers of flight.
I think next time I have to come up here I am going to try and get Will and Alvin to come too so they can go there one day while I’m at work. So now I’m just counting down the days until I get to go home. My flight is scheduled to be in at 1645 and I leave Hartford at 1245 that morning. I shouldn’t be too bad and I know time that day is going to go so slow due to just the anticipation of getting home.
