Things, and...other things. And some other things. No, wait, just two things.

Does anybody else remember Toonami? I mean, I'm pretty sure that's a moot question, but GODDAMN if reading the tvtropes article on that programming block didn't just...HOLY CRAP, GUYS. NOSTALGIA BOMB LIKE WHOA.

Let's rewind about ten years, maybe a few more, to the earliest days of Toonami. Little 8-10 year old me has just gotten home from school and, to postpone doing homework, decides to turn on the TV. And what's there to greet me but this cool little after school block with a CG robot host and these crazy shows that don't come on any other channel and are really freakin' cool.

I didn't even know what anime was at that age; all I knew was that I loved the shows on this block. I'd waste a couple hours on any given weekday watching Tenchi Muyo and Dragonball Z. Tenchi was really my intro to anime; it's the first series I can remember liking enough to seriously follow (my favorite character was Washu). And they had these awesome promos with great voiceovers that I only recently realized were done by PETER CULLEN ZOMG. I found a few of them on Youtube and I got chills watching every one of them. And I could totally still recite the entire Rurouni Kenshin long promo from memory.

So...yeah...good times, good times. Definitely an influence as far as my current love of anime goes. ONLY TOONAMI.

And now for a funny story: I'm a brother of Phi Mu Alpha, a national men's music fraternity. Every Valentine's Day our chapter sells Sing in Tuxes, basically Valentine's wishes in song. As we were going around campus today delivering them, I passed the strangest sight: a complete Xbox 360, sitting whole on top of the box, next to a trash can. On top was a note, saying that the machine worked, but had an overheating problem. The owner didn't care to get it fixed, so had placed it out in the hopes that someone would take it.

I ask you, what would you do in that situation?

Yeah, I thought so.

So now I have a Xbox in need of service and a whole bunch of spare parts in a box on my bed (it looked like the owner might have tried to fix it by cannibalizing parts from another system). Hopefully I can take it in and get it fixed when I go home this weekend. I still have to get a controller and hook-up cables, and a hard drive, but I'm crossing my fingers that the whole deal will still cost less than buying a new system. Have I mentioned that I really, really want a 360?

randomness, i am a nerd
