Okay, so...Otakon? IT WAS AWESOME. Not just awesome, but AWESOME, if you catch my drift. Basically everything I wanted and more.
My Axel cosplay got rave reviews (rave reviews here defined as "getting stopped for photo ops every three minutes and being told by veteran Org. XIII cosplayers that you look awesome"). It was so awesome that IT LANDED ME ON YOUTUBE. I am so out of sorts right now...
Cool/funny thing that happened: I recognized and got to hang out with someone I knew from the internet. One DustyRoxas from youtube was coming out of the dealer's room when I spotted her. She turned out to be really awesome and we hung out all three days.
Second thing that happened: I TOTALLY MADE OUT WITH A ROXAS. We were waiting for one of the Kingdom Hearts photo shoots to start, and this Roxas says, "Hey, you want to do some fanservice?" It all went up/downhill from there. That should be on youtube in a day or two as well...
One strange thing I noticed is how Baltimore natives seem to have no idea that this convention is happening. I had occasion all three days to leave the BCC and hike to some other location, and pretty much as soon as I got more than a block away, people began giving me looks. I mean, true, you don't see a guy in a long black coat and spiky red wig just walking the streets everyday, but this con is over ten years old and is attended annually by thousands of people. It seems a bit odd, then, that so few natives seem to know it's going on.
Another awesome thing about this experience: everyone is SO NICE. Seriously, it feels like you're automatically at a certain level of acquaintance with everyone, just by virtue of the fact that you're there. I had KH cosplayers flagging me down to hang out all weekend. Me not normally being Mr. Popular made this a pretty cool experience...I hope it didn't go to my head...
So, that's the scoop. Hopefully I'll have photos and crap up in a little while.
kingdom hearts,
cosplay,
