Today this morning I went to Marcus Dairy in Danbury, CT where over a thousand bikers gathered to do a Cancer Run through the area. My boss, Buzz Kanter from American Iron Magazine, was the Grand Marshall of the trip on his 1931 Indian Scout. He was paranoid the bike might lock up, so he asked me to follow the procession in the American Iron Truck with all the logos on the side. Then, if the cycle died, we could ramp it on to the truck and drive it home.
The ride took about an hour and a half, and we all went over to Shelton, CT near Bridgeport. I got to be right behind all the bikers, all riding in fairly tight formation (for CT motor vehicle operators--that is). It all looked cool as Hell. We had police escorts, and police stopping traffic on the side streets. There were something like ten police groups involved, plus the State Police. I was like a mobile billboard for AI. We were able to make pretty good time without having to stop for lights, and the bikes didn't rubber band too badly as we made our way. I wish I had taken some pix. It was pretty awesome to see that many bikes in one place at one time.
At the end of the ride we met in a State Park, and had burgers and hot dogs plus an OK band (they were slightly out of tune, and "Pitchy"). The boring part was when they did the raffles because they had way too many prizes to give out.
Buzz's Indian ran fine the whole day, so I didn't need to haul him and his bike anywhere.
