Crazy thing happened Saturday. I was in my house, listening to a song that I had finally managed to download after loosing the 'original' cd that I had bought in Venezuela. The song is called 'El Gaban Perdido'. It took me forever to find it because my husband and I were not sure what the song was actually called.
It is an old Llaneras song, which is a type of music from Venezuela. It has been done by a few singers, as it is such a wonderful song with great latina emotion in it. It is a woman singing about a lover whom she has chased after and devoted her whole life to, and he has done nothing but hurt her with his many lovers and lack of returned commitment. She sings about it using a simile with a hawk and a little bird..... gaban, gabancito.
So..... I was singing this song and went outside to smoke a cigarette. I heard some commotion in my über gigantic bougainvillea bush. I look and see a hawk fly into this bush, and he is in there chasing around a little bird. Even crazier, my cubano neighbour hears me singing this song as I walk out of the house, and he too watches this hawk fly into my bush, chasing around the little bird!
I ran to the bush and shook it. The little bird flew out first, and the hawk then flew out and perched on my cable line. He stared at me like I had rained on his parade.
Herumph!
