I've been reading The Terror by Dan Simmons lately. It's an amazing horror novel that while featuring copious amounts of gore, is much more about atmosphere and the humanity (and inhumanity) of the characters. It's also a great piece of historical fiction.
I just have one problem with it. The ferocious beast that's hunting the characters is described in very vivid imagery as basically a polar bear from hell with massive claws and teeth yet whenever it's on the page, the only thing I can picture in my mind is this:
Yeah. Bumble, the Abominable Snowman from those Rankin Bass Christmas specials. He's kind of a mood killer. O_O
