So, Josh and I have been busy busy busy with getting ready to move, job stuff (his current one and my search for one), and visiting places around Ohio that we want to see before we move!  Yesterday was a crazy busy day.  We went out to an archaeological dig about an hour West of here.  It was hot and sweaty work, but really fun.  I am SO sore today ( Read more... )

I'm terrified of furminators! Ours somehow ended up on the floor, blade up (without the safety cap on...) and I stepped on it. That was both quite painful and messy! It took months to heal, and I still have the scar. So I refuse to have anything to do with it; Steven has to use it and then put it back in the drawer when he's done.

When we were real young, my mom made us recite our manners before we went into any public place. I'm told we were very well-behaved when we went out. I wish more parents would do something like that!

Yeah, we did notice that the furminator is unusually sharp for a brush... I'll have to be extra careful with it and make sure to keep the cap on now that I know it really can cause major damage=\

That's really cute about reciting your manners! My mom's tactic was that if we started misbehaving she would just say "Ok, we're going home now if you can't behave". It only took one or two times of her actually taking us home for us to realize when she said that, she meant it. I've always hated disappointing my parents, so most of the time I was pretty well behaved. I've always admired the way my mom treated us when we were kids. She was firm but still loving and I wasn't afraid of her. She never spanked or anything like that. I hope I'm able to have the "no-bullshit approach" with my kids, while still being affectionate.

you know I never have been to another zoo aside from the Columbus Zoo (being from that part of the state and all) so I never really thought it was anything special, but I guess it's ranked 1 in the country... that makes me want to see other zoos.

Yeah, we've seen a LOT of zoos all over the country. The Columbus Zoo IS a good zoo; but honestly, I don't know why it is ranked number one. I've been to other zoos that were about as good as it, and I've been to one zoo that blew all the rest out of the water (the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha). We loved the manatee exhibit at the Columbus Zoo. The waterpark looked awesome, too.
