So for this Wednesday, I have to make the choice between spending an hour and a half with 300 big, muscular men killing in capes and loincloths versus an hour and a half with two old, older, really old, really older women in a "love affair." Of course I'm watching the women!
Thanks to Mariliz for the heads on notice that they will finally be showing Notes on a Scandal (on the same night as the premiere for 300 no less). The boyfriend wants 300 but the sister knows how long I've been obsessing over Notes on a Scandal so I will at least have one companion for Wednesday evening. Everyone else who wants to watch can go with me for FREE. =)
Speaking of movies, lulu has announced the next batch of nominees for our monthly Supporting Actress Smackdown Sundays. I'm torn because we have 1940 (Judith Anderson in Rebecca, Jane Darwell in The Grapes of Wrath, Ruth Hussey in The Philadelphia Story, Barbara O'Neil in All This And Heaven Too, Marjorie Rambeau in Primrose Path), 1985 (Margaret Avery in The Color Purple, Angelica Huston in Prizzi's Honor, Amy Madigan in Twice in a Lifetime, Meg Tilly in Agnes of God, Oprah Winfrey in The Color Purple) AND 1994 (Rosemary Harris in Tom and Viv, Helen Mirren in The Madness of King George, Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction, Jennifer Tilly in Bullets Over Broadway, Dianne Wiest in Bullets Over Broadway). I voted for 1985. Why? ANJELICA F'N HUSTON! The women of THE COLOR PURPLE! Amy Madigan (who should have been noticed for her work on Carnivale). Happily enough, 1985 is winning so I may just get my way at long last in deciding the monthly batch. If you'd like to help me, cast your vote
HERE. Vote 1985, the year when most of my readers and I were born!
On a sidenote, regarding tennis. All I can say is that I have moved from ambivalence to hatred for James Blake due to the Round Robin issue that sprang up in Las Vegas. What kind of a VP for the Player's Council is he if he's ignorant about the proposals and reformations that he advocates and votes on for his fellow players? At first I could still understand if he played on but saying that Mr. Disney's changing of the rules (which must be pissing off Juan Carlos Ferrero after another mishap just last week in Buenos Aires) was the correct choice (one of de Villiers reasons? "I just did what any fan would do."), wellllll Mister Newly Christened (not by me) Blake the Snake, you just went from coward to bastard. I'm sure we were all elated when Marat Safin & Lleyton Hewitt spoke against it as well as Roger Federer piping in all the way from Dubai But to the good side of it all (not thinking about the Justine-Sveta thing oh no no no), Martina Hingis has won her 37th doubles title with new partner Maria Kirilenko (dubbing them as M&M) at Qatar and my girl Emilie Loit won her third career singles title at Acapulco! Way to go Emilie!
I am currently attempting to accomplish that clearance form for my graduation but Ateneo makes it so difficult with all these signature requirements coupled with all the departments just having to display how long they can make you wait.
Oh by the way, on Wednesday, if you have time, please attend the Heights Creative Talk on Children's Literature from 4:30 - 6:00 PM at G312 (formerly the music room but Xander says they are trying to "repurpose" the room). I set it up all by myself. =/
I am seriously dreading tomorrow's final Practicum meeting because all the Theater Artists/Dramatists (the distinction must be made!) will be there as well as her. The fact that it's more than a week late now only makes me move on from weary to dread to quesy.
And finally, I am waiting for Xavier school to call as to when my teaching demo will be scheduled. I haven't done the lesson plan but at least I know how I'll teach it (which Sir Vince Serrano actually managed to teach to us in five minutes during my Freshmen <--- the word! --- class three <--- the number! --- years ago).
Still waiting!
