I can understand female audiences crushing on the male role performers, they were hot!
omg haha there was this really famous Beijing Opera singer in early 20th century China (back in the day only men could perform in Beijing Opera), and he was really well known as an actor who played female roles. And the saying was "If you want a wife, marry *guy's name*!" ngl, I totally kind of want to be a man who had a crush on another man like that XDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
