My brother is a living breathing DOLL. Yeah, Rafael. He's on his week-long vacation from the army after finally finishing basic training so he decided to go visit his yeshiva. And on the way back he came to visit me! Which is a good thing considaring I haven't seen him for two and a half weeks and probably won't see him again for another four weeks, so yeah.
I met him at the tachana merkazit and then we drove around a bit trying to get through the traffic to the old city. We got to the old city and walked around for a while all the time relating recent happenings, mostly dominated on his part by amusing tales from the army. We were having so much fun and not paying attentiom that I suppose we just deserved what came next. On the way through the Cardo we were stopped by a guy from a group of Russian-American-(I think)Jewish tourists, who got very excited about Rafael's gun and wanted to take a picture with us. Lemme explain a bit, even though he's officially on vacation from the army he still has to carry his gun around at all times and I guess the boots and the olive-colored coat kind of attracted thier attention too. We were asked the whole list: how did we know English so well? Oh, so our parents made aliya? Were we born here? (I think Rafael sidestepped the whole New Zealand thing very well, thereby preventing further confusion) Was I going to go into the army too? What did we think of the war in Lebanon? And on and on. Amidst all this Refael was thanked numerus times for "what you are doing" (*heavy russian accent*) and wished "a wonderful life" several times (*also heavy russian accent*). Apparently we really don't look alike because I was asked during one of the photo-taking sprees (of which I was spared, mercifully) if we were dating. In a rather surprised tone I explained that he's my brother. Much astonishment; "but you look different!" (*you guessed it...*)
After this amusing episode my cute, sweet, DOLL of a brother took me out to dinner. To a burger place, but STILL. He said it was a belated birthday present. Hey, I take it. Anyway, I just had a lot of fun. I don't usually get to myself, so we never actually get to TALK all that much, sad. He was always away and now *I* am, so we have to work at it. I just love it when I have fun with my siblings!
