For my current show, I have to wear a rather elaborate costume just to come on and do scene changes. I've got boots, a petticoat, a (stretchy) corset, a mini bustle, a giant long-sleeved white dress, an apron, and a silly little hat.
There are so many layers, that I can wear something underneath without it making any difference whatsoever, to make changing in and out of it quickly easy. Today David commented that it amused him that I just rolled up my jeans, and threw everything on on top, and it reminded me of my favorite quote from my favorite book, To Kill a Mockingbird:
Miss Maudie's gold bridgework twinkled. "You're mighty dressed up, Miss Jean Louise," she said. "Where are your britches today?"
"Under my dress."
