On Wallace's Interest in Consuming My Insides

Nov 22, 2009 13:24

Finished poetry anthology.

Lots of oddness with blackbirds.

And Wallace Stevens will eat my organs.

Non-Aerb Explanation:

We had to compile 15 pages of poetry that we encountered during the course of the class. And arrange it in some way that makes sense. They had to go well together. So I took Wallace Stevens' "Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird" and put it at the beginning. Then I took poems that I thought commented on each of the thirteen blackbird sections. And then I ended with a poem by Peter Balakian on Wallace Stevens.

It was super fun.

Except that Wallace Stevens will hate me for poetry commentary trashing him.

I love you, Mr. Stevens. I love you and your surrealism. Do not eat my organs.
