Identicalities

You do it like a favor.

Mary-Kate is stiff against you, breathing in your ear, digging her fingers into your back, moving them the way she would move them against herself-you're in her way.

You try imitate what men have done to you, try to approximate what you have done to yourself-you try to map your memory onto your sister's body, but you know what? You're not the same anymore. You say, "This isn't working."

Mary-Kate makes it work. Mary-Kate is nothing if not determined. "Give me your hand," she says, and you give it, and feel her slick clit. She lets you linger there, and then she pushes you inside her-you've never seen rapture like her face. You fuck her with your fingers, like a favor you owe.

But when she comes, she tries to kiss you on the mouth-you're fucking her with one hand and you're pushing her away with the other, and she's coming and you can't stop and then you can because she's pushing too. You sit back, and think of your wet fingers making a mess on the blanket, and grab a Kleenex from the nightstand. Mary-Kate's legs are still open, her eyes are shut. She touches herself like an open wound. You want to tell her everything is okay, but it isn't. The tissue is sticking to your hand.

Mary-Kate's fingers are wet, too. She licks her knuckle and wipes it all on her thigh.

You're not the same anymore.
