Wayfinder38

Dec 19, 2008 11:33

My best friend and companion for almost 48 years died early in the morning Tuesday Dec. 16, 2008. He died peacefully in his sleep. I was asleep when it happened.

My plans are to have a memorial service here in Tucson in February and another memorial service in Madison in April. The obituary will be published just prior to the memorial services.

Wayfinder 38 was more commonly known as Richard (Dick) Bonser. He was born August 14, 1938 in Dayton, Ohio. He spend his childhood in Madison, Wisconsin and Honolulu, Hawaii. He attended Oregon State College where he met his wife Julia (Waite) Bonser. They were married December 28, 1960. They lived in Canada for 5 years and he attended the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC for his Masters in Regional Planning.
Then he worked in Vancouver, Washington as a Regional Planner. Then he moved to Wisconsin where he worked for the State of Wisconsin from 1968 until his retirement in 1996. He and his wife then spent 11 years living and traveling in their motorhome. In 2007 they moved to Tucson, Arizona.
In addition to his wife, he leaves two children, 4 grandchildren and several foster children.

My icon for the past several months has been an image of Hecate. She is the Goddess of the Crossroads and also considered the Goddess of liminal spaces such as birth and death. I have aided Dick in his journey and that portion of my life is now done so I'm retiring the image.

All in all I think I am doing well. I spend some time every day making phone calls and sending emails to let people know. I can only do so many as I cry each time.
Thank all of you who have stayed with me during this incredibly difficult two years.

"The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing, and face us with the reality of our powerlessness, that is the friend who cares." -- Nouwen
