Bam! And Dean finally gets hit with a clue bus. Let's just hope it's not too late.

Hee! And wow, you're a fast reader! Now if only that bus will make an appearance in canon.

Thanks for commenting!

wow. I pretty much spent this entire chapter with my heart clenched. oh, Castiel. Oh, DEAN. *hugs them both*

I'm really happy to see more fics addressing the concept of Dean lashing out at Castiel after 5.10. I really think it's very likely he did so. And Castiel's reactions just punched me right in the gut, ow ow ow. Love the way you write Sam and Dean interacting as well - Dean's annoyance with Sam's willingness to discuss things not Always Manly, and Sam hitting Dean with a clue-by-four - as he has been all this season. ♥ Sam*

Looking forward to the next part!

PS - I love your explanation for how Castiel got from Castiel09 to Castiel14 mentally. I think it's actually the most plausible reasoning I've ever seen: Dean treating him and talking to him as if he's only useful in battle, and Castiel coming to view himself as he thinks Dean perceives him: a weapon that is useless when powerless. Awesome.

Thanks! There's just something about Castiel's speech in the truck in 5.04 that struck me--the way he kept saying "useless" and "powerless" and "hopeless" and talking about his angel mojo draining away--it seemed obvious that he equated the loss of his powers to the loss of his worth. And after Dean's canon remark about Cas in 5.10, after he and Sam speculate that Lucifer may have captured Castiel, and Dean's only concern is losing the "angel up our sleeve"--yeah, that rubbed me the wrong way. Thus--fic!

Thanks for reading! I share your love for Sam--he's absolutely adorable, even when he's evil. :P I have to admit getting a thrill in "On the Head of a Pin", when he suddenly appeared to save Castiel from Alastair with the Hand of Power upraised. Sam rocks!

As for Dean and Cas, we'll probably never know why Cas wasn't there at the Memorial Photo Burning with Sam and Bobby, but this is just my own speculation. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I love the "broken Bablefish" expression. It's so true!

Despite the playful turn of phrase and Dean's song-lyric-ing, this is such a painful piece. Poor boys. Dean's anger and Cas' reactions were perfect and IC. I can't wait to read more!

That term, "broken Babelfish" came to me when watching 5.03, when Dean says to Cas in the motel room, "So, what, then? Are you and me gonna do a Thelma and Louise and link hands and drive off a cliff together?"

You can see almost Cas wondering, "Is Dean asking to hold my hand? And isn't driving off cliffs bad for humans? If I say no, will it hurt his feelings?"

Okay, that last part was my own interpretation.

Thanks for the kind words!

This made my heart ache so bad and I'm getting teary-eyed from this. There are very few fics that can make me cry, this being one of them. Wonderfully written, excellent interaction between Dean and Sam. I'm looking forward to the next part!

Thanks for the compliments; they mean a lot. Every author hopes to evoke emotion with their stories, so your words made me glad--I like making you cry! (Kidding, sorry!)

Seriously, I think all of us Castiel fans are still reeling after 5.04, the utter, abject tragedy of that final act, even before the Sam-Lucifer scene.

Also, thanks for encouraging me with the Dean-Sam comment. Those two actors have such wonderful chemistry on the show, easy and natural, that I was afraid I would mess it up. It's a relief to know you enjoyed their scene.
