Of course, once I started working on the multichapter, semi-humorous Chase fic, I was hijacked by the Season 3 finale, Human Error, and so was sidetracked onto this oneshot. Thus, one more oneshot from me, this time from Chase's POV.

Warning:  major spoilers for Season 3, especially the finale, Human Error.

Rated PG-13 for language.

This story is beautifully written. The details added to the canon events, as well as Chase's internal thoughts, really elevate this retelling to something special.

I'm very grateful for your review. I always have qualms after posting a fic like this, thinking, "Does my interpretation make this original, or am I just copying from the TV screen?" You've ehlped set my worries at ease--thanks for reviewing!

That was really good, thanks for writing. Chase's thoughts were interesting and in character.

Wow. I never thought of House firing Chase in that light. This was incredibly well written and very realistic. Please write more!!

Thanks for the compliments! I'm very flattered that you enjoyed the story and my POV on the motive behind the firing. I'm currently working on a relatively light-hearted Chase fic, so more is on the way. :P

Reading this made me feel a lot better about the finale: I've been thinking along similar lines and it's nice to see Chase's growth reflected in a fic.
I've been afraid that despite what we've seen in the show the fandom would be buried in new superangsty!Chase stories, but you really did a wondereful job.
I still remember singing Miserere when I was younger (catholic school), and I found miself humming it while reading. The "Dona nobis pacem" line was a really nice touch.

Thanks for stopping by. I'd been aware of the spoilers for the show, and I actually dreaded two things happening in the episode: that the writers would 1) just have Chase disappear after being fired, or 2) show him at home cutting himself or something.
In fact, they went one step further, and showed that he's not anorexic, either. :P So yes, canon helps support a non-angsty Chase, but man, I'm still depressed about the firing!

I'm glad you like the Miserere; I particularly like my church's version of the Agnus Dei, the pleading of Miserere nobis and the soft acceptance of Dona nobis pacem--it's very dreamy-sounding, and I could hear it in my head as I wrote this fic.

I'm rambling again! Thank you very much for the thoughtful review!
