So I officially finished MBBS I on Friday - hooray! Still have no idea if I passed or how I went, because results don't get released for another week and a half (slackers!), but it's hard to care because it's finally dawning on me - I have six whole freaking weeks of holidays!
I don't actually know what to do with myself. I've gotten so used to always having this vague nagging feeling that I should be studying whenever I do something else. I talked to a few other med people, they all seemed to feel the same way. It's like we don't know how to have a holiday anymore, I'm actually seriously contemplating starting study for MBBS II. How sad is that!
So, elective - I loved it. It made the whole painful theory part of the year worth it. Towards exams I was seriously thinking about whether or not I actually want to be a doctor anymore, but this practical placement was so awesome that it completely reaffirmed it for me.
Also... I think I want to do paediatrics. I went into it thinking that oncology/haematology was it for me, and I found it interesting, but I loved working with the kids. I have so much admiration for them, they were fantastic and the families were amazing. I really prefer working with children over adult patients. So I'm thinking I'll actually specialise in paediatrics now, and maybe sub-specialise in paediatric oncology/haematology. I'll probably change my mind a million times before then, especially when I go to all the other placements.
Anyway, in other news, Neil and I are leaving for our annual Gold Coast holiday this afternoon - yay! It worked out really good, because I come back on Thursday (and he's staying down another few days for his guy's weekend), so I don't even have to use any annual leave. I'm going to take heaps of pictures while I'm there, I hate knowing that I've forgotten to take photos of so many holidays. Tomorrow is his graduation (yes, he is graduating, what a nightmare that was to organise), so I'll have to figure out what I'm wearing. I have a dress that I bought a few weeks ago, and it's really pretty but I'm worried it's a bit short (and it's empire line, so I think I look a bit pregnant in it...)
We applied for an apartment on Friday, the one we inspected this week. I really hope we get approved, it was a great place and the location was perfect. I could walk to the bus and only drive to go to the gym/visit people/work on the weekends! No driving to uni and trying to find parking spots! If we get it, it'll work out great - I can just buy weekly bus tickets, because work, uni and the Mater are all easy to access from the busway. I am a genius.
