Chapter Nineteen Part 4

______________________________________

Late afternoon of the 23rd - that scheduled road trip to Gunma is about to start.

“Rai, let’s go.” Yuto probably has called for his brother four times already. They’ve been loading their luggage inside their van - they’re up for fairly long drive to Gunma.

“Yuto, the keys.” His dad uttered, and after fishing them out of his pockets, Yuto tossed them towards his dad who caught them perfectly.

“Nii-chan, we’re stopping by Rui-chan’s place aren’t we?”

“Yep. She’s taking care of Raido and Tamu for us.” Yuto answered, glad to finally see his brother out of the house. He was wondering what Raiya was so busy about and now he knows. Raiya has been bundling up Tamu and Raido’s blankets and all the other stuff their dogs might need. “Rai, I don’t think they’ll need all that.” Yuto was trying not to laugh and complain at the same time.

“But Tamu couldn’t sleep without this blanket, and Raido loves this squishy toy.”

“Is it really okay to leave those two with Umiko-san? I told you we can let them stay at a pet hotel.” Yuto’s mother joined in the conversation. “It’s a little troublesome taking in two dogs all of a sudden.”

“Ruu-chan insisted since she’s not going anywhere this holiday. She said she’ll be bored as heck. And besides, Tamu and Raido love her.” Yuto answered, taking stuff that Raiya’s carrying, “I already spoke to Jiro-san too, and he’s actually thrilled. That person loves dogs.”

---

“And Raido likes to run around too much, so please be patient with him.” Raiya uttered, still holding onto his little Yorkie as he and Yuto heads up to Louise’s unit. They’re inside their condominium now and are dropping off their precious pets.

“You really want to take them with you, huh Raiya?” Louise asked and Raiya just nodded.

“We can’t since it’s gonna be boring for them.” Yuto answered, patting Raiya’s head. “It’s only for a week Rai…”

Suoh, Louise’s ever so chubby beagle, was actually just nudging on Raiya’s legs that Louise had to tell him to stop. “He likes begging for attention.” She uttered, and soon, Yuto lowers himself and introduces Tamu, his daschund, to biggy Suoh. The two dogs stared at each other for a few seconds before they started running around. Raido started fidgeting and Raiya soon lets him go and the three were making a ruckus right away. “Well, I guess my holiday won’t be that boring after all.”

“Ruu-chan, are you sure about this?” Yuto looked worried.

“Don’t tell me you’re having second thoughts? My dad would hate you. He’s looking forward to going home tonight since he knows we’ll have two more pets.” She grinned, “It’s a long drive for you guys, so you better get going.” She was practically pushing Yuto towards the door.

Raiya was playing with the dogs when Yuto called out to him. “Can’t I just stay here?”

Yuto sighed and Louise just laughed, “We’ll call Ruu-chan often so you can ask about them, okay?”

“Okay…” looking a little down, Raiya follows his brother. Before leaving, “Thank you Rui-chan.” He uttered and Louise pulled him on a casual hug.

“You won’t miss them too much, I promise. I’ll video-call your nii-chan if necessary.”

Raiya just smiled and hugged her tight. “Merry Christmas Rui-chan!”

Yuto then turns the knob, “See you in a week Ruu-chan.” He uttered.

She surprised Yuto when she pulled him for a hug as well - that familiar warm hug Louise always manages to give him, “Take care on your trip. Enjoy Gunma, and if it’s not too much of a bother, call or message me when you get there, okay?”

Hugging her tight before she lets go Yuto feels like this is what he missed all these years. “I will.”

And soon, the Nakajima’s were on their way. As she closes the door, the three dogs were all staring at her - Raido specifically has his ears up and dandy. “Alright boys, what shall we do today?” Louise grinned. Deep down, she knows she’s always wanted to have playmates like these.

xXxXx

It’s about six in the evening, and Line’s feeling a little fidgety. Normally, Daiki should be here at around this time. She’s been waiting for about half-an-hour at this café of theirs. “Oh what did I expect? I didn’t tell him to come.” She said to herself upon checking her watch. She was wondering that if she sees Daiki tonight, in this seat, in this café, maybe she’ll be able to tell him things. Like, she’s leaving for Gunma tomorrow, that she won’t be at that Christmas Party, and… She sighed upon coming across the thought, ‘that I like you, you idiot…’

“You don’t leave everything to chance.” Inoo surprised her, taking a seat opposite to her. “Yo.”

“Ah. What’re you doing here?” Line asked; more like she wasn’t sure what she’s supposed to say.

“Sorry I’m not Dai-chan…” he chuckled and Line rolled her eyes, “Or whoever you’re waiting for…” Line just keeps shaking her head as if Inoo’s saying something ridiculous. “What are you doing here all by yourself?” he asked, pulling his sweater closer to himself - it’s annoyingly chilly.

Line pushed her cup of café mocha towards Inoo, “You can have that.” She offered and Inoo just took the cup and locked it in his hands - it’s warm you see. “Clever, setting me up the other day… You said you’re coming shopping with us.” She glared at Inoo and the guy acted like he’s hurt.

“A little THANK YOU wouldn’t hurt, you know? And you’re welcome…” he winked and took a sip. It’s nice; that hot mocha in a chilly night like this.

“Kei-chan…” Line sounded like she’s trying not to scold him. “It’s not like…”

“How many times must you try to deny it, Line-chan?” Kei sounded serious, “And come on… Don’t act like you think I don’t know anything.”

“I’m not entirely sure how you ended up knowing, to be honest.”

“I’m not dumb.” He grinned, “And I’m not dense.”

“Shut up.”

“You’re dense. He’s dense. There’s no future for you two.”

“Pffft….” Line chuckled, “I have no idea what you’re saying.”

“If you’re waiting for Dai-chan, he’s not coming tonight.” When Line looked at him and was about to say something, Inoo continued, “I haven’t seen him all afternoon.” He shrugged, “It’s quite annoying actually. Who knows where that idiot is…”

Still trying to figure out what Inoo’s saying, Line’s phone started ringing and she just answered it right away. “Ruby…” She uttered.

“Finally, after endless missed calls, you answered!” She sounded pretty pissed.

Line didn’t realize she was spacing out a lot when she was alone that she didn’t notice her phone was ringing. Ruby probably was trying to call her tons of times already. “Sorry…”

After sighing, Ruby lets it out straight, “It’s no use waiting for him there, he’s not coming.” Ruby knows that Line’s planning on waiting at that café - seeing if by chance, she’ll meet him. Only Ruby knows how much this means to Line. It took her forever to convince Line to confess, and now that her friend finally thought about doing it, it’s kind of frustrating how things are suddenly not going well at all.

It’s pretty scary how similar Inoo’s and Ruby’s words are but all Line could think of was ask “What are you talking about? Who’s where?”

“He’s here in that Quiz Show.” And Ruby’s next words echoed inside her head and Inoo can tell that Line’s just blanked out a bit, “With Asuka.”

She hung up and was just staring at Inoo. “Ruby found Daiki.” She uttered rather casually.

Inoo, taking another sip of mocha, raised his eyebrows, “And?”

“He’s participating at that Quiz show.” She uttered, and Inoo was surprised when Line pulled that mocha cup of hers away from him and she took a sip.

“Wha-? But he has no partner… He… Oh…” Perhaps it hit him. Inoo stared as Line just keeps drinking from her cup. “I didn’t think he’d actually go.”

Before Line could take another sip, she was surprised when Inoo was already on his feet, snatched the cup from her and lays it on the table, and suddenly grabbed her hand and they were running. “Oi!” Line complained but she’s being dragged away. “Kei-chan!”

“No use sulking away! It’s just a quiz show Line-chan.” Inoo uttered between breathes, “Cheer for him at least!”

“But!” But she couldn’t tug her hand away, and soon, they were just running.

---

Surprisingly, there are a lot of people in that gym where the quiz show’s being held. Ruby was awesome enough to spot them right away and Line and Inoo were soon seated. Apparently, one of Ruby’s other friends is participating and she’s just as shocked as ever when he saw Daiki and Asuka together as a team. She tried calling Line tons of times, but she wasn’t answering, and thus when Line and Inoo got there, it’s already the finals round.

“Finally!” Ruby uttered as Line and Inoo takes their seats. “I was worried you wouldn’t even show up.” She said nudging towards Daiki.

“He’s been looking for you I think.” Yuya uttered, surprising Inoo.

“I thought you’re leaving for Osaka?” Inoo asked rather automatically, but Yuya told him there’s been a change of plans for this holiday.

“You didn’t tell me Arioka-kun just brilliant with this stuff. He basically knows everything.” Ruby stated, watching as Line just looks at Daiki - he’s looking rather concentrated. Asuka seems to be telling him something but all he kept doing was nod and occasionally say something short. “My friend was out of the competition by the second round.”

“It’s surprising how there’s still a lot of people around this time.” Line replied rather out of the blue.

“Oh. People here loves these last minute events.” Yuya was the one to explain. “And since the Christmas Party’s usually held really late, everyone gets to stay even after the break’s started.”

They were suddenly silent as the question for the final round is raised.

Line wasn’t sure why, but she didn’t really get to catch the question. Because as it’s being ask, all she could do was look at how serious, and concentrated Daiki is. He’s never really been this serious - not really something she would say as a characteristic of Daiki. This guy - he’s always the carefree one. He’s the type to look lazy, and sleepy and still happy all the time. Daiki’s not really one of those people whom you’ll get a dark aura from. He’s the… erm… he’s like a walking sunshine, know what I mean? He’s the genki type. So seeing him like this… a little out of character, a little different, to Line, it’s creating little strong thuds inside her chest.

What? He’s a really good-looking guy. Sure, Line hasn’t said this out loud, but she’s always thought Daiki has a really nice face. And with a serious mood, it’s kind of hard not to think how good he looks. And right now, as he gives the answer, there was a certain pause. After talking, it’s like on cue, Daiki looked straight towards where they were sitting, and there he spotted Line.

He was just staring at her and she was staring at him back. It’s like everything was silence even thought it became madly loud as they declare the answer correct.

“Line-chan… Line-chan!!!!” Ruby almost smacked her as Line’s really unresponsive.

She blinked, and Daiki did too. “Huh, what?”

“THEY WON!!! THEY WON!!!” Ruby was jumping and hugging Line, Inoo and Yuya were just like proud brothers, and as Line was finally getting the news in her system; she knows she’s blushing red with all that sudden excitement, but she wanted to see Daiki.

She ran towards the stage, not really minding how hard it is with the sudden movement of people but as she got there…

Line felt like swearing but there were no words. As she stood just at the foot of the stage, a few feet from Daiki, she saw Asuka and Daiki in a tight hug. It was fine, just a hug is fine, but when Asuka broke away, and Daiki was so ready to walk away for he saw where Line stood, Asuka pulled him back by the collar. Their lips were so close - to Line’s view, it’s like the whole words playing slow-mo.

Not really wanting to see where this is heading, Line looked away and she didn’t see that Daiki moved his face away, making Asuka look like a total loser - her lips hanging. “…Sorry…” Daiki wanted to shout at her, curse, swear, anything, but it matters to him that he catches Line so he managed the most humane word he could muster and left Asuka.

---

She started walking fast then she was running. Line didn’t really realize where she was heading; all she wants is to keep herself in motion.

After a pretty long - and she must say - exhilarating run, Line manages to stop her legs and soon she was at a halt - standing just at that café she was at just moments ago. It’s about to close soon; wait, what time is it!?

“We open early, young miss.” That nice lady who’s always the one making Line’s mocha smiles at her as he changes the café sign from open to close. “It’s rather late and cold.”

“Yeah…” Line managed - how is it that she’s never asked this lady’s name ever? “Well, you’ve had a long day, otsukaresamadeshita.”

The lady smiled at her and bowed and Line did too. “Take care on your way home.” She uttered before waving Line a goodbye and getting back inside the café.

---

He sighed; why was he not able to catch up with her. Raising his phone, all Daiki could do was stare at his wallpaper - yes, that picture of her and Line. It’s way past 2 in the morning, and he still couldn’t sleep. All he kept thinking since he got inside his room was how Line looked when she started running away. What was going inside her head? It was ridiculous how he let his guard down like that and just let Asuka… oh goodness, why did he even trust Asuka.

Several times he tried calling her, but it seems that her phone’s dead. Inoo wasn’t speaking to him much either. All he managed was how stupid he thought Daiki is for agreeing to be partners with Asuka… again.

There was another heavy sigh, and Daiki stood up. He sat on his chair, staring at his study table. Just this morning, he pinned on his wall those pictures Line gave him. Those ones she printed - pictures of Kei, him and Line. Then of those lot, Daiki noticed a few wherein its just him and Line. He specifically loved how that picture in his wallpaper has a printed version too, and this he actually stuck on the back of his notebook’s front cover.

Turning on his desk lamp, Daiki just looks at their picture. “How much exactly can I try and keep to myself…?” he uttered. Never in his life has he thought this day would come - that day wherein he couldn’t sleep, thinking over someone really special.

xXxXx

Morning of the 24th, and Louise and Jiro argued last night about where Tamu, Raido and Suoh would sleep. They ended up ALL sleeping in the living room - with Louise taking the couch, and Jiro, along with the three rascals, sleeps snuggly on a comforter laid on the floor.

Louise woke up because he phone was ringing; she saw the time and it was well around four in the morning. “…Hai…?” She uttered rather lazily.

There was a quick buzz on the other line - I mean, a quick string of words that Louise frowned just hearing all this familiar noise.

After a few more talking, and Louise minimizing her phone’s volume, she heard that familiar sound of her name being called and soon, yes I know it took her forever, Louise uttered, “Mom?” she was confused, looking at her phone’s screen to check the number. How come her mother’s calling from a Japanese line?

xXxXx

Reiko was surprised as she was about to start her day early and here’s a seemingly early bird.

“Ohayou Reiko-san.” Line greeted - she looks rather unprepared to go out. It’s winter, and all she’s wearing are her pajama bottoms, a pretty oversized sweatshirt, another jacket loosely worn, and her fluffy panda bedroom slippers. She has a camera on hand, it’s strap around her neck, a gym-bag - or so that’s what it seems - and erm… a blanket(?) that’s tucked under her arm.

“You’re going outside?” Reiko sounded concerned. “It’s freezing out there sweetheart.” She told Line the temperature but the girl looks like she doesn’t mind and Line was on her way out. “Kiotsukete!” Reiko called out and she heard Line faintly thanking her before she runs off.

Running, running, Line wanted to be there on time. She looks up at the rather cloudy and foggy sky and was thankful. It’s looks like she’ll have time to set up.

As she reached that Art Build just across their dorm, Line stormed for the rooftop. This is the perfect place.

With the art building being the shortest, not a lot of people think this is a good spot for watching the skies - but Line thought it perfect. This is one of the recent spots she’s discovered, and she was thrilled to see the sunrise up in this spot. See, there are times when Line feels like she wanted to go around on her own. Even though some people can come with her - there’s this need for her to do some stuff just by herself. Like walking around aimlessly, not minding the time. Line managed to do that a couple of times, and its places like this rooftop are her major reward. It’s little prices like these that thrills her to keep doing these spontaneous walks.

Line lays her blanket, sprawls her things on it, and with a smile, she takes the lens she thinks would fit best. Setting up her tripod, just about the right height, she smiled again upon seeing bit by bit that shot she’s about to make.

As Line puts on those lens she chose, she mounts her camera on her tripod, and her first peek of the supposed view was just perfect. The sky looks rather glow-ish - more like steams fighting over a growing light. She can see that the sun’s coming soon, its rays kissing the bottom of her field view ever so gently.

It’s like a mixture of cloud and orange, only lighter, softer.

Perhaps with this morning, she’ll be able to not think of last night. It wasn’t Daiki’s fault, and nor does Line want to start thinking about how it’s all Asuka’s doing, but for now, she wants this shot. She needs a good restart button to help her ease her mind. Its little things like these that make her go on for years doing things without feeling any regrets. Its little things like these that remind her of who she is and what she wants.

Checking on her watch, it’s half past 5. Sunrise is at 6, or so that was what was reported. This is Japan - the land of the rising sun. Usually, the sun doesn’t rise this late here. It’s [usually/always] before 6. But today’s a special day - that’s why Line wanted to capture it.

Sitting on that blanket of hers, Line hugs her knees closer. It’s just now that she’s noticed how cold this morning is. The moment she woke up - from that ridiculously restless sleep - Line washed her face, brushed her teeth and just gathered up her things. It was like lightning.

“Darn…” She uttered, as she blows out a few puffs. “I forgot to grab some mocha.” She pouted, blowing more puffs, and soon, raises her hands and breathes on them.

---

“Have a great morning young man!” The lady greeted as Daiki runs off with what he just bought. It’s just great how this café opens up really early.

He hasn’t had sleep - all night, he couldn’t sleep. He kept rolling on his bed, fidgeting, even tried counting sheep, but there was no use. He was surprised when Inoo was banging on his door at around five though.

Still looking rather half-asleep, Inoo tells Daiki something that made him run off and just like adrenaline, he was just pumped.

What was their conversation, you ask?

FLASHBACK

Still yawning, “You better go to that rooftop.” Inoo uttered, and there he goes off yawning. “She’s going up there today.”

“How’d you know?”

“I told her about that late sunrise.” Inoo’s eyes closing. “Yeah… and she said she’s gonna take a picture of it from her rooftop. That art building… she told us about that place once….”

“Kei…” Daiki uttered.

“You better not waste my efforts on waking up this early, f*ckin, morning, you hear me?!”

He couldn’t hold his smile and Daiki was just so excited he hugged Inoo tight, “Thank you Kei-chan, you’re the best!”

“Huh??? Un…” Were Inoo’s last words before Daiki lets go of him and he just snails his way back inside his room. “You’re hopeless without my help…” he uttered to himself as he resumes his sleep.

END OF FLASHBACK

Daiki smiles at remembering it actually. He better make it up to Kei.

---

Line sneezed. This has been a slow morning. She checks her time and it’s quarter to six. Rubbing her nose, Line hugged herself tighter as she hold a yawn that managed to escape anyways.

Now, sleep is calling her again. She’s not really bad at waking up, it’s just that sometimes, she gets to wake up in the middle of a sleep cycle perhaps, and thus sleep is not completed. Why must today be one of those rare days of hers? She can feel her eyes giving up, but Line pinched her cheeks - trying to keep herself fully away. The sun seems like it’s coming out on exact schedule.

There came another sneeze, and this time, Line sniffed afterwards. “…Ohayou.” Line almost jolted as she heard this voice, and was soon awake - her eyes wide, she turned, and there was him, walking towards her.

“…Dai-chan…” she uttered, really, really surprised. “…What are you…”

“Kei-chan told me you’d be here.”

She blinked and tried not to look at his face. “Sou…” she nodded and then she looked at her horizon.  “…Waiting for the sunrise…” then she sneezed again.

“Here.” He shoved it to her without waiting for a response from her - it’s that white jacket of his she said was her favourite. “You didn’t really think you’ll manage this cold morning with just that, don’t you?”

Line puts it on while chuckling and Daiki laughed too. “Thanks…” was what she managed. She was about to say something again when Daiki told her that he can see the sun coming and Line was quick to go to her camera and wait. “Dai-chan, look…” she said, pulling Daiki so that he’s looking through where she was. He placed down whatever he was holding and went closer.

Upon leaning closer, Daiki felt like his words were taken away. The scenery was quite indescribable. There’s the sun, crawling from underneath his view; its rays of different lengths, shooting outwards. They create this luminous crown, of something golden yet softer than gold. The blue skies were suddenly faded into what looks like purple, but more like that whitish color of a lavender petal. The whole landscape was glowing, or so that’s what he could muster inside his head.

“Take the shot.” Line uttered and Daiki looked at her worriedly. “Don’t worry. Just take it.” She uttered and watched as Daiki holds her camera and as if he’s waiting for his own cue, he soon clicks the shutter button and Line heard that familiar click.

“That was…” Daiki uttered as he steps away from Line’s camera. “Thank you.”

She smiled. “For what?”

He wasn’t sure what he was thankful for upon seeing Line’s smile. They stared at each other for a few more seconds before Line sneezed again and Daiki just laughed. He pulled that jacket of his that Line was wearing, and he zipped it shut. He even pulled the hoodie up which Line complained about but Daiki just patted on her head, keeping the hoodie on. “You’re my chibikko right? You can’t catch a cold. Who knows what your father would say?” They both know Daiki’s talking about Inoo acting like Line’s dad and they both just laughed.

Soon, the sun was up nice on its morning spot, as if giving them that fireplace warmth and Line and Daiki were sitting on that blanket of hers, close enough that she’s really beside him.

Then as if remembering, Daiki held out a cup to Line. “Hai…” he uttered, and Line looked at him before taking the cup.

As she hold onto it, Line read, “Chibikko…” as that is what was written on the cup.

“They wrote ‘penguin’ on mine…” Daiki replied, showing her his cup. As Line was about to sip, “That’s Hot Chocolate by the way.” He uttered rather shyly, “Thought maybe you’d like to try it.”

“Sweet…” She uttered, and Daiki looked at her curiously, “The Hot Chocolate... it’s sweet.”

“Oh…” he looked a little disappointed but soon enough…

“You’re sweet too.” She continued and Daiki feels like his cheeks are burning, but as Line chuckled and went on saying, “Well, that came out cheesy…”

“No… no…” Daiki countered, not sure what to say so he’s just stuttering and all, “…I’m just glad…”

She smiled and soon, Line just elbowed Daiki, “Thanks…”

Daiki couldn’t help but try to keep his heart calm, yet it was so hard. He bit on his lower lip before he looked at Line who was looking at the sky. “Line-chan, about yesterday….”

She directed her look from the sky to him. “Hm?”

“I tried to run after you… and…” Daiki wasn’t sure what to say and nor was he sure if he wanted to hear what Line has to say.

“I might run again, you know…” Line uttered, looking back at the sky as she takes a sip of that sweet cocoa Daiki loves - now she knows why. “… I mean… It’s probably not the last time you’ll see me going away.”

He wasn’t sure where exactly Line is going, but Daiki was sure of one thing, “I’ll keep running after you then…”

And with that, it feels like Line’s worries are just blown away. She smiled and to Daiki’s surprise, Line just leaned her head on his shoulder as they both look up at that sun. “Dai-chan…” Line eventually spoke after a while of silence, her head still on his shoulder.

“Hm…?” He asked, fighting off the urge to just pull her closer and kiss her head - it’s just not right yet. But the thought of it makes him smile nonetheless. Just being next to Line like this, there’s nothing he could ask for, really.

“I think it’s clear now that you should just try and stay away from Asuka-san.” Daiki held his chuckle and Line did too, “What? It’s true…”

“Hai. Hai.” He was still chuckling and Line was trying to not laugh.

“What? She has major maniac issues…” Line uttered and this time, Daiki laughed pretty hard that Line pulled away and looked at him. “What’re you laughing about?”

“Nothing, I’m not really sure either. It’s just that…” Daiki hold his laugh, “I promise; if it weren’t for my intention of catching up on you, I might’ve punched her square on the face.”

“Weeeeh?” She sounded like she was doubting what Daiki was saying - in a taunting way and this made Daiki wide his eyes, trying to convince her that he really was about to punch Asuka.

He was pointing at his lips, “SHE TRIED TO KISS ME!!!”

“I know, I saw…” Line was suddenly quiet.

And Daiki was suddenly quiet too - awkward - and soon they sighed at the same time and then laughed. “Maniac issues, huh?” Daiki uttered, and Line turned serious-mocking mode.

“Oh just wait. She’ll try to do it again.”

“If she tries to do it again…” Daiki was cut off and totally surprised by what Line said.

“I’ll kick her butt real hard, I swear on it.” With a grin on her face, Daiki just laughed and he couldn’t help it, he just pulled Line into a hug - it was surprising for both of them, but no one lets go.

A few more minutes of sitting there in silence, Daiki just felt Line’s head on his shoulder again, and this time, she was sleeping. He moved her to his lap; Line still sleeping, all he could do was thank this great morning. Christmas came in early. His greatest present is sleeping right next to him. It’s fine even if he still didn’t get to tell her how he really feels. A part of him tells him she knows anyways.

xXxXx

Rubbing her eyes, Louise yawns just before she opens the door - who the heck is seriously visiting, on the 24th of December, at this early!? She was surprised that Jiro was up and that he was watching behind Louise. The three rascals are asleep, so no worries on that.

“Dad, this better be a joke…” She uttered, and as she turned the knob, all Louise can stare at was that familiar brownish hair, that ever so foreign-like features, she almost couldn’t manage a voice out and whispered, “Mom…?”

“Merry Christmas Sweetie.” She smiled and pulled Louise into a hug. What shocked her was how casually she walked towards her dad and even pulled him into a hug, “It’s been a long time.”

Jiro smiled and Anne broke away - the two then looked at their daughter. This seems like a rare picture to her.

xXxXx

“Ohayougozaimasu.” Yuto greeted the moment he entered the kitchen. They are staying at a huge ancient house in Gunma. This house is really big - it can hold perhaps three families in total - to be blunt: it’s a mansion. He was told this is going to be a big family reunion with some guests.

The cook is someone Yuto’s pretty familiar with. This old lady, he calls him “Baba-chan,” (well, everyone does) knows him since he was a baby. Baba-chan hands Yuto his cup of hot milk and Yuto sits on one of the counter’s chairs. No one’s awake this early it seems - except for some maids. “Yuto-kun, how are you? I haven’t seen you in a long time.” Baba-chan started; she seems like she’s done doing breakfast and give Yuto his plate of pancakes. “You’ve grown remarkably tall too.”

Yuto thanked her and started to eat, “It has been some years since we last visited, ne Baba-chan? Sorry about that…” he took a bite, “Pancakes…” he uttered, “American-style, ne?”

“Oh it’s… well… the guests. See, they’re… erm… I’m not sure if they’re Americans, I heard them say they’re from Canada, so you see…” She smiled, “But if you like something else, I’ll make one for you.”

“Ah, no, no… this is actually really good…” Yuto was quick to counter. Then they kept talking as he eats, offering his Baba-chan to eat numerous times, but as always, she’s already eaten, and soon, Raiya comes in, rubbing his eyes. “Raiya, did you even wash your face?” Yuto asked the moment his brother sat next to him and laid his head on the counter top. “Oi, wake up.”

“Nii-chan, did you call Rui-chan already?” He asked, still sleepy while Baba-chan hands him his glass of milk. “Thank you Baba-chan.” He uttered still sleepily. “Did she call?”

“Ah… I forgot my phone upstairs.” Yuto uttered and surprisingly, Raiya was up on his feet saying he’ll get it.

As Raiya was about to leave the kitchen, he almost bumps into a rather tall guy - more like Yuto’s height maybe, or even taller, and Raiya looked at the person for a moment before bowing and saying sorry then he dashes off.

“Excuse me, but I was wondering if I could get some milk?” He spoke in perfect, fluent English - but of course, he’s a foreigner for goodness sake; anyone can tell: his face, his skin, his hair - everything.

Baba-chan stared at the guy for a moment and it was silent; that maid that has been helping these guest isn’t around right at this moment, Yuto was the one to speak to Baba-chan, telling him that the guy’s looking for milk. Hey, it’s nice enough Yuto can understand English roughly enough - all those little learning session from Louise and Keito must’ve made some difference.

As Baba-chan hands the guy a glass of milk, he thanked her, even bowed, and he looked at Yuto and thanked him too. Then he started, “Do you… erm… speak English?” He asked; sounding hopeful.

Yuto intended to tell him straight what he knows, “Ah… English. Just little bit…” He uttered and that was enough to make the other guy smile. Since his manners are shouting, Yuto raised his hand, and spoke after clearing his throat, “My name is… Nakajima Yuto.”

It seems the other guys just caught on his first name, “Yuto…” he said it with quite an accent. More like ‘You-toe’ and thus Yuto just nodded; usually, in other countries, they don’t mind using first names right away. Then the guy shook his hand, and replied, “My name’s Kenneth.” He smiled, “Kenneth Dickson.”
