“Oi…” Chinen started as Ryosuke sighed deeply. “If you’re gonna cry, just cry already.” They’ve just finished that little media-show where the three of them had a tiny interview.
Ryosuke just took one deep breath, scratched his chest, rubbed his eyes with the back of his hand, grinned and then faced Chinen, “I’ve got a record for crying during times like these.”
Ever so cheerful Yuto is sniffling in one corner though, “Chii, you can cry too.”
“I’ll cry because I only got 4th place.” Chinen remarked rather nonchalantly - something Chinen-ish. After a few silent seconds, the three looked at that familiar classroom. Oh, they’re standing at the corridors - familiar halls of Horikoshi where they’ve walked on for three years.
After the ceremony, the rest of the graduates are still welcome inside the school. They’ve all decided - the entire class of 3D - to go back to their room one last time. “It was really something… that time when sensei asked me to stay out here.” Ryosuke uttered, pointing at the spot where he stood back at that time he was being punished.
Chinen chuckled, “You were troublesome.”
“Not really the most sociable student either…” Yuto added. “You’re always the ‘stay-away-from-everyone’ kid.”
“Hey! I’ve changed!” Ryosuke countered. Then just before another roll of topics start, the trio spotted Kamiki Ryuunosuke and Ohgo Suzuka approaching them.
“Congratulations to us!” Ohgo, ever so respectful and proper, greeted them. “Ah… Yamada-kun…” she let her words hang, “You’re still here?”
Ryosuke raised his eyebrows a little… then as if on cue, he held onto his chest, feeling that missing ‘thing’ on his wardrobe. “…anou…” Ryosuke wasn’t sure how to respond. What Ohgo knows is something no one else knows.
But it’s like the girl can read him perfectly, “Just go where you always go.” She said, making Yuto and Chinen frown, while Kamiki seems to know something.
After getting some questioning look from his bandmates - but surely they have a little bit of clue- Ryosuke excused himself and walked that familiar route towards the rooftop.
Just as he passed by Ohgo and Kamiki, he felt her tap on his shoulder, “It’s all going to be okay.”
Her words sent a different chill down his spine as Ryosuke just nodded and went on his way.

Holding onto that precious button, Mirai tried her best to memorize the wind at this very moment - this feeling, this second; it’s never going to be same ever again.
How long ago was it? When she first entered this school… not really sure how things will go… she promised that she’ll manage though, and she did - but a lot more has happened… thing she nor anyone would really expect.
The memories of their class - those epic performances, sports festivals, rehearsals that are too darn difficult to schedule because everyone’s busy with work; hey, it wasn’t a normal high school life…. But it was no less fun.
She smiled. It was hard… actually no, it is hard. To stand here and think that things are over at this moment… that their high school life is gone.
Being really dramatic isn’t her characteristic, but sometimes it visits her on her most unexpected times. She didn’t really want to cry today, but heck her tears decide for her. As Mirai wiped her eyes with the back of her hand, she took a deep breath and cleared her throat. No one should know she’s crying - it’s better of parting that way. Because like it or not, this moment - this is probably the end of everything for anyone she crossed paths with during these past three years. Yes, including that special person who owns this button, clasped in her hand at this very moment.
Soon afterwards, she heard the door open - she expects it to be no other than him.
“Mirai-chan…” Ryosuke’s ever familiar voice calling her, it sounded rather far.
She turned to face him and gave him that familiar smile. “Congratulations.” She even grinned, “I was quite unsure whether you’ll graduate with us…” and ended up giggling.
“That’s mean!” he complained, like that little kid he is, and approached her.
Mirai has her lips tightly shut - the way she always press them together whenever she’s nodding or just listening to someone. “I’m going to miss this place.”
Ryosuke nodded. “Yeah…” he looked around - this rooftop where sometimes, everyone would just go and let out their frustrations. Each and every one in their class has probably had their fair share of memories in this place.
“Oh psssh… you’re happy about graduating. You hate school.”
It wasn’t false, he does… erm… not really like school, “Not hate, exactly. I just don’t… like it that much.”
She laughed then afterwards took a deep breath. “The practices were fun. Those sneak-outs in convenience stores, mischievous walks during field trips…” she sounded rather really sad though, like things are going to disappear, “Yama-chan…” her tone made Ryosuke’s chest tighten.
“Hn?” he asked, trying not to sound too worried - but he is… madly.
As Mirai held out her hand, Ryosuke felt like he knew what’s going to happen next. She slowly loosened her grip, and there on her palm, lies a button.
He looked up at her, questions - lots of them - on his face. “You’re…” he managed.
“Thank you.” She said, taking his hand and placing the button on his palm - then she closed his fingers tight. “I’m really happy you gave it to me…”
Ryosuke knows he’s going to cry, but he tried his hardest to listen, to widen his head. “Mirai-chan…”
“I know, I know…” she smiled weakly, holding onto his hands with both of hers, “I know it’s not supposed to mean anything but that special friendship…” he can feel her hands shaking, “That you’re not expecting anything from me… But…”
Ryosuke’s tears came out, despite his efforts, and Mirai brushed them away hastily.
“Hey! Don’t cry on me…”
But Ryosuke’s already sobbing, “It’s just…”

“From here on…” Mirai bravely spoke; you can clearly hear her trying to prevent herself from crying, “Things will be really, really different…” She said this ever so carefully. “Listen…” She held up his face so that he’ll understand what she’s about to say. “You have something so great… ahead of you, things are going to be… unimaginably grand.”
Still having Mirai’s hands holding onto his, Ryosuke tried to calm himself down.
“You’re everyone’s Yama-chan…” she said, and this time it was a mixture of happiness and sadness - the very definition of a bittersweet moment. “We will no longer have the walls of this school helping us be normal…”
“Mirai…” he was sounding rather weak, “…I want to try…”
She tightened her hold more, as if the next thing is to just grab him and hug him but she must not. “Outside…” she sniffed, “You’re Yamada Ryosuke… and I’m Shida Mirai.” Looking down on their hands, “We’re never going to be Yama-chan and Mirai-chan in class-D anymore.”
It was hard, but for someone in the entertainment industry, Ryosuke knows exactly what Mirai wants to say. That outside, they can never be like how they are in school. Outside, he’s under the Jimusho, under that darkly hidden contract of forever not being able to love like a normal person - he’s bound to his carrier for life. It’s the sad reality; that sad price of fame - something Ryosuke thought he can overcome with Mirai someday. But now, she’s not ready… she’s not ready to face the world the way they once planned.
"We're not going to meet inside the room, joke around during break times, argue during practices and school reports.." While Mirai keeps on going, Ryosuke was just trying to keep himself as composed as possible.
"No more scolding because I didn't do my homework" Mirai was surprised when Ryosuke suddenly added, and soon, the two were finding themselves just crying. Those little moments they sometimes get tired of everyday at school, now how they wish they could still encounter them. Things you take for granted are surely those you miss the greatest when they're gone.
And soon.. “Ryosuke….” This is probably the first time she addressed him like this and it feels like she wants to end this painful conversation already. “Be that Yama-chan everyone loves.”
As if reading the lines, “And be that Mirai-chan that everyone looks up to.” Finally, he manages to grab hold of the reality that’s hitting him hard - that this girl, this one girl that he managed to keep close to him, will have to step away… far away, because that’s how their lives are supposed to be from here on.
But just as Mirai was about to leave, Ryosuke held onto her hands, and shoved her back that button. She gave him a questioning look, tears in her eyes, “…Yama-chan…”
“Keep it.” He said, retrieving his hand and shoving them inside his pockets while watching Mirai look at the button. “It’s to remind you that I’ll forever be Yama-chan from Class-D.”
“…That idiot Yama-chan who doesn’t know how to talk to girls?” Mirai said this rather lightly, and they both laughed.
“Hey, I’ve changed.” He smiled, “…you know I’ve changed.”
She smiled and nodded, he face rather satisfied. She then shoved the button in her pocket. “It’s going to be tougher from here on, but I’ll be supporting you, remember that, okay?”
“Mirai-chan…” he uttered just before they open that rooftop door and head back to the world downstairs.
“Hm?” She asked, her eyes familiarly wide.
Then to her surprise, Ryosuke leaned forward and pulled her into… just about the warmest hugs she’s ever had. “We’re still normal people…” he whispered, “And one day, even reality will accept what I feel right now.”
It was confusing, but hearts can’t lie - Mirai knows exactly what Ryosuke wants to say. “Ganbatte ne…?”
"Ganbarimasu."
And that, they both went back downstairs to join the rest of their class - no one knows how things will go from here on… every one’s taking their own path, but one thing is sure - they’ll forever be those kids of Class D. And that’s definitely never going to change.
Fail. Yes. I am terribly sorry; I shouldn't have shared this, but oh well... Thanks for reading, and sorry to have wasted your time... *crying in one corner*
