It’s been years, yet their friendship stood the test of time. Yuri stands, seven years after. Age has been very nice to them - since everyone looks perfect at 25.

How long ago was it? That time when he missed the chance to tell her how he feels?

“Yuri…” Her voice a bit little; she bumped onto him while on the way to the train station.

“Oh… Mirai…” he looked a bit surprised, “Off somewhere?”

She nodded. “Yama-chan asked me to go to the amusement park with him.” She even held out the ticket with a shy smile.

He can’t help but hold his breath a bit. “That’s sounds nice, then…” his voice was fading a little - but only he could notice.

“I’m… acutally…” her voice quivering, “…nervous.”

A smile escaped from him. “Why?” then a chuckle, “You, nervous?” he rolled his eyes, “You’re kidding.”

“I am…” she snapped, holding onto her chest, “I… I don’t know if I should really go.”

There was that great throbbing inside his chest but as always, Yuri would know how to present himself. He’d know what to say. “What do you think you’re doing here now, then?” he asked cunningly, “Heading to the station,” he paused, “Surely, you already know if you wanted to go or not.”

With that, he wasn’t sure why Mirai pulled him into a hug. She thanked him and ran to catch her train. As he watches her move away, Yuri can only hold his breath. “I just let her go.” That’s what kept ringing inside his head.

And now, he laughed at the fresh memory. Looking up at the sky, it’s so clear. It’s dark but there are no clouds - the stars twinkling like they did years ago. How can time change things so fast, yet the skies look like they haven’t even go through a single second?

Today marks the day he truly closes everything for himself and the only girl that actually managed to make it to his mind and heart.

He paced a little. He’s at this secret pavilion he and Mirai used to meet at whenever they feel like the pressures of things are killing them. To him, those were the precious times - back in High school, being friends with great people, and spending some quiet time with the girl he actually cares about.

Yuri was never good with words - or expressing his feelings. He always successfully manages to ruin things for himself. That’s why he laughs at the thought of love… and that’s why the only girl he cares about is getting married in less than 24 hours.

“Yuri…” her familiar voice still gives the same feeling of joy and contentment in him it does for the past years. “Thank you.” she smiled, walking towards him, “For meeting me here, that is.”

“Wedding jitters?” He smirked as Mirai stood beside him. They both leaned over the pavilion’s fence just like they used to. “It’s not like you to get nervous.”

Mirai laughed, as if mocking herself, “You’re the only person I show my nervous side to, it’s surprising to hear that coming from you.” she looked at him as if scolding, “ALL THE TIME.”

But Yuri just stared at her, “Why are you always nervous when it comes to Ryosuke?”

And Mirai started fiddling with her hands, “I’m not…” after a pause, “…You think I am?”

He took a deep breath, “You like him that much, that even up until now, you get nervous.” He then looks up at the sky, the wind started blowing, “It’s amazing.”

“Shut up.” There she pokes him, “What about you, don’t you ever get nervous in front of the girl you like?” she’s really clueless - that’s how good Yuri is.

Surprising Mirai a little, he leaned closer, their lips just a few inches apart - Yuri didn’t blink and Mirai stared at him caught completely off-guard. Then Yuri pulled away and chuckled saying, “Nope…”

Looking at him weirdly, she uttered, “You’re really strange Yuri…”

The two spent a few more minutes just talking about random things - the way they used to back in High School. Yuri has always been her neutral ground, her confidant; he rarely says much it was great that he was there to listen. And he was pretty much the same to him. He loves the fact that no matter what happens, bad or good, she was there to make him feel that everything will be okay still.

“Tell me something…” Mirai started as they sat down on some benches, still at their pavilion.

“Hmmm?” He asked, watching the clear sky again.

“How come, I’ve never seen you cry?” She looks genuinely curious. “I know, the question’s too out-of-nowhere, but… yeah… why?”

He shrugged, “What’s to cry for?”

And she shrugged too, “Yeah, I guess you’re right.” She looked at the sky too.

“…Tomorrow…” it’s barely audible but Mirai heard it still.

“What’s that?”

“Tomorrow, Ryosuke will cry.” He grinned, “Wait for it.”

Mirai rolled her eyes, “You think…?” but even before Yuri can reply, she added, “Well, he is a crybaby.”

This time, Yuri just stood up, walked in front of her and just looked into her eyes. There was something at that moment that both of them felt like they wanted everything to freeze. Then to her surprise, his hands were holding her face, his thumb brushing her cheeks lightly.

Mirai can feel her heart pounding fast - it was the same feeling at that train station seven years ago. But they kept their stare at each other.

Soon enough, Yuri leans forward and rests his forehead on hers. She can feel his nose touching hers, their lips painfully parted by a few centimeters. Their eyes closed, holding onto this precious foreign memory they’re making right now. As he spoke, she can feel his breath on her lips, warmth over the cold wind suddenly blowing, “I want you to be happy.”

Mirai couldn’t tell exactly why, but tears came rolling down, and she was soon trying hard not to sob. Yuri didn’t let go, held them at that state for a few more minutes before a faint thunder was heard.

As she opened her eyes, Yuri’s eyes were looking at her - in a way she’s never seen them look at her before; or at least, it’s something Yuri has tried to hide from her all these years.

One. Two. Then a couple more drops, and soon, the rain started pouring, everything was loud. Inside the pavilion, they stay warm and dry - still stuck together.

Then Mirai finally notices that little glimmer in his eyes - glossy, like his eyes were glasses filled with diamonds. Before she could say anything, she held up her hand and locked his face in them. She opened her mouth and was about to say something when Yuri pulled away, a sad smile on his face.

He then runs off to the open, the cold rain drenching his shirt - the cloth sticking to his perfect built. She watched as he looked up, a smile on his face as the rain hits his cheeks.

“I love you.” He uttered, and Mirai clasped a hand over her mouth. I guess she knew all this time, but he never said it. Her chest was pounding hard, her tears just kept coming. It was hard to breathe, deep heavy sobs, her vision blurry but she tries her best to wipe her tears away. As it gets harder, Mirai holds up another hand over her mouth, and she felt her fingers touch that diamond ring that tells her what’s in store for her tomorrow.

Yuri closed his eyes, took a deep breath and faced Mirai. Out in the rain, soaked and broken, he stood there and looked at her. He knew well she can see him - he knew her too well.

And as Mirai stares into that beautiful face of her best friend under the rain, she can see his face, drenched. She catches some trails going down his soft cheeks. And Mirai knew what they were - they’re not the rain. She then started running out in the open, Yuri surprised a little, as Mirai just pulled him into a tight embrace, burying his face on the nook of her neck, and he can feel her kissing the side of his head. “Thank you.” she whispered.

And this time, maybe just this time, he can allow himself to cry. For Yuri just grabbed onto her tighter, not wanting to let go. This moment - perhaps she can be his. He started crying, every part of him breaks; all is in pain. For right now, he can forget about what’s going to happen tomorrow and just cherish this little, small moment where he finally was able to tell her how he really feels.
