Yesterday was awesome.

Excerpts from yesterday's adventure:

The Captain, the Druid, and the Magician enter the scene. The Captain wields a crafty dagger (a small stick), the Druid carries a magic staff (a big stick), and the Magician brings with her both a wand (a medium-sized stick) and a slender longbow (a long, curved stick). Armed with their various sticks... erm... weapons... the courageous trio head off on a dangerous quest to slay the evil dragon that has been terrorising the countryside.

Captain: *pauses* Do you hear that?
*sounds of people screaming and yelling from the sports event down in the valley*
Druid: OH NO! The dragon is killing the villagers! We're too late!

Captain: What is that? *points to a tree*
Magician: It appears to be a tree, sir.
Captain: No really?

Magician: Captain! I can hear the trees speaking. They must be spies of the enemy!
Captain: Druid! What do you make of this?
Druid: These trees are enchanted with spirits.
Captain: Can you find out anything more about them? Are they good or evil?
Druid: *begins whispering into the bark*
Captain: ... what are you doing?
Druid: You told me to find out more about them. I'm asking this one its name, but it's not answering me!
Captain: ... and you're supposed to be one of the wisest beings in existence?
Magician: Well, what would you have done?

Druid: Captain! Look! *points to a large dip in the ground*
Magician: This must be the dragon's nest!
Captain: It's empty... someone must have stolen her eggs!
Druid: That's why she's attacking the village! She? It must be a lady dragon!

Captain: Ahh! I'm wounded!
Magician: No!!
Druid: Captain! O my Captain!

Yesterday was absolutely amazing. Jackie, Nicole, and I wandered about the trails around Dunning's Spring for over three hours. In some cases, we blazed our own trail through the woods just because we felt like it. At one point, I think we stumbled onto a deer trail, which was pretty cool. One particular trail was bisected by a barbed-wire fence proclaiming: THE CITY OF DECORAH IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR INJURY OR DEATH. But of course, since there was a huge gap under the fence, we crawled over to the other side, following an overgrown trail that led us straight to a huge cliff above the spring. The trail was steep, slippery, and right on the edge of the cliff. One misstep would have probably killed someone, but even still... it was so much fun! Especially since... well... I (none of us really) predicted we'd be doing any hiking apart from leisurely walks on the granny trails... so I was wearing a skirt and four-inch heeled boots! Certainly an experience, that one!

Then, to top it all off, we stopped at the Whippy Dip on the way back for 85 cent brownie sundaes. Perfect!
