Name one thing about human nature that puzzles you.
The need to make yourself look and/or feel better by putting down another human being. That's what I don't understand about human nature.
Sissi Delmas, the principal's daughter, is an expert at it. She's constantly picking on the younger students here, like Tamiya and Milly. She insults me, or Jeremie or Odd or Yumi, then turns right around and tries to sweet talk Ulrich into going out with her (and she wonders why in the world he turns her down every time). I've even seen her yell at and insult Herve and Nicolaus, who supposedly are her only two friends at school.
But Sissi's not the only guilty party. My friends and I have taken our share of potshots at her from time to time. Odd would say that they were justified because of how she treats us, how she treats me especially because I'm the "new kid on campus". And I admit, I have gotten a small amount of pleasure from catching Sissi off-guard with a barb of my own. But that doesn't make it right for me to do so. Nothing does.
Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me. Huh; what a lie. Before Daddy virtualized both of us, I had a friend at Kadic who was picked on constantly by someone very similar to Sissi. My other friends and I did whatever we could to support her. Then just the other day I was looking through back issues of Kadic's school paper for a homework assignment.
There was an article in one of the papers about my old classmate; she had committed suicide, overdosing on medication in her dorm room. The note she left said she was tired of constantly being the target of people's insults.
Human nature.
