Every time my friends and I virtualize ourselves into Lyoko, we're putting ourselves in danger. Thanks to XANA and his monters it's come a long way from the paradise that my father first envisioned; if we're not dodging monster attacks, were trying to avoid falling over the edge of a cliff or some narrow path and into the digital sea.
However, the most dangerous thing I've ever done was to send out my original SOS call.
Up until that point, I had been able to deal with XANA by myself. I'd use the towers to travel between sectors and generally avoided XANA's monsters when I could. There weren't a lot of them around back in those days - mostly Kankrelats and a few Blocks, and they rarely attacked me. When XANA first started activating the towers I didn't think much of it. I believed that it was a fluke in the programming, and shut the towers down as soon as I saw that they had been activated.
When XANA realized that I was the one shutting his towers down he started to become more aggressive. More monsters were created and they tried to attack me to prevent me from reaching the towers and deactivating them. There were times I felt I was lucky to escape.
Finally I realized that I wouldn't be able to stop XANA on my own, that sooner or later he'd kill me and be able to take over the world uninhibited. I needed help, and the only way to get that help would be to find someone in the real world who would be willing. That meant bringing regular humans to Lyoko and making them risk their lives to defeat XANA. It also meant risking my own life; if the government intercepted my SOS, they would discover the supercomputer and possibly shut it down, destroying both XANA and myself.
But in the end I didn't let my doubts stop me, and I sent out my distress call.
And it was answered.
