TM Response #214 - Greatness

"To be great is to be misunderstood" - Ralph Waldo Emerson

[private entry; locked from all eyes]
My father's name was Dr. Waldo Schaeffer, and he was one of the minds behind France's "Project Carthage". Aside from working for the government he was just a simple man, living in the mountains with his wife and raising their young daughter.

But simply by changing his name to "Franz Hopper", Daddy practically turned himself into a living legend.

In the early days of our battle with XANA, before I recovered my memory, Franz Hopper was an enigma to all of us. All we knew of him was that he was the creator of Lyoko, the creator of XANA, the creator of me - he was the one that had started it all. If not for Franz Hopper, Jeremie, Odd, Ulrich and Yumi's lives may have taken totally different directions. Diligently we tried to piece together the life of this larger-than-life man, hoping to find a solution to our problems.

Instead what we found was a man who was at war with the government, who had abused the time travel program to such an extent that it eroded his sanity.

A man who was willing to sacrifice everything, even his life, to keep his daughter and the whole world safe from XANA.

My father was a great man. Just not for the reasons that we believed.
