I got accepted into the Bioengineering PhD program at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign a couple weeks ago. I've been pretty busy with current school issues, so I haven't mentioned it, but I'm nonetheless excited about it. They're flying me into Chicago on the 24th, and I'll get to spend a day with Ian bumming around (yay!) until I take a train into Champaign for a two-day introduction to the program. Of course, I still need to hear back from all my other schools before I give them a final answer. So this will sort of be like an extended date. They will pay for my hotel and food, and I will look pretty and (hopefully) wow them with my academic prowess. :)
So that was the ego boost of a couple weeks ago. This little beauty came this morning...
First, background... I asked the following question in an email to their contact person:
"You mentioned a time during the visit that was set aside for individual meetings with faculty. Should I contact professors now to set up these meeting(s)? If so, is there time for one or two? If not, when will we know who we get to meet with?"
He replied:
"We will organize faculty meetings for you. If there is a faculty member you would really like to meet with let me know and we can try to arrange that. Several faculty members have expressed interest in working with you and we will make sure you get a chance to meet them and talk with them about their research. You will get a list of meetings once you get here. We will probably be arranging this the week before."
Whoa baby, how's that for a first date? This will be fun.
